Both were genocides. Based on the actual definition, it's the systematic destruction of a people.

The Holocaust went the murder route.
The Atlantic Slave Trade went the "turn this group of people into not-people" route.

Both genocides that had different ways of going about the destruction of a people.

From the United Nations, an organization that has, I assume, far and away more experience dealing with genocide than you.

In the present Convention, genocide means any of the following acts committed with intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnical, racial or religious group, as such:

2. Causing serious bodily or mental harm to members of the group;
3. Deliberately inflicting on the group conditions of life calculated to bring about its physical destruction in whole or in part;

5. Forcibly transferring children of the group to another group.

So let's check them off one by one WITHOUT bringing up the Holocaust:

1. Killing members of the group? I mean obviously. Certain slaves were worked until death. Others were flat out murdered. Runaway slaves would be tortured and murdered.
2. Causing serious bodily and mental harm? Separating from families, raped, lynchings, lashings, beatings, etc...
3. Deliberately inflicting conditions of life to bring about the physical destruction in part or in whole? Whole? Obviously not or the economic system would have crumbled. But physically detaining and preventing an entire people from advancing or even interacting in a society? Yup.
4. Preventing births in a group? Also yup. Early stages of eugenics by breeding select slaves akin to animal farming.
5. Forcibly transferring children of the group to another group? I mean do I need to bring up how many families were broken up once they got off the boat?

So now I only see two options really. Either you argue with an organization that has spent the nearly a century combating genocide the world over, but that in makes you a monster for arguing that those five aspects of genocide didn't happen in American slavery.

Or you realize you don't know what you are talking about.

I agree that comparing who is worse is dumb, but America certainly did not join WWII because of the holocaust. And if you don't want to accept the UN's definition of genocide in relation to slavery, then surely you can acknowledge the genocide of Native Americans, right?
