Although Black men are killed by the police more than any other group, Black women are regular targets of police violence even though this fact is often rendered invisible.

A culture and history of racist misrepresentation may have something to do with it. Why has there been considerable tolerance among the silent majority of white people for animal-like, demonic representations of Black people in media and popular culture?

The short answer is that we are dealing with a culture of domination. It is a culture that thrives on the sexualized demonization of Black people. Two examples of this are Ridley Scotts Alien, which comports with the trope of Black women as alien breeders and Predator, written by brothers Jim and John Thomas, that riffs on images of Black men as dreadlocked, violent and superhuman.

I get that, "just because something is non-human, that doesn't mean they can't be an allegory." If you look at Dumbo for instance, it's pretty obvious that the crows are meant to be Black.

But to project onto everything you can, and read the most hostile interpretations possible, is some fascist bullshit. That's the court of guilty until proven innocent. And you can never prove you're innocent. That's why we have guilty and "not guilty" verdicts. The burden of proof lies with guilt -- not innocence.

A spear is not a racist concept.

A spear is a weapon which has historically been used by many peoples. In giving a spear to an ogre or an alien, you are not saying that the bearer of that spear represents an ethnic group you wish to demonize. It has a suggestion of primitive behavior, yes, but primitive behavior is fair game for exploration in fiction.

If every character -- if every human, every alien, every mythic creature, and every anthropomorphic animal -- had a business suit and a heightened vocabulary, these same people would be complaining about "model minority" depictions or splitting hairs over which intellectual is a demonized representation of which ethnic group.

There's no way to guard yourself against others who wish to feign offense.

I saw a video about the article. All I can say is that the professor and/or journalist who wrote it is a clown. Scratch that! A whole circus. The entire thing was written to intentionally spread propaganda and misinformation for rage clicks from fans of those films.
