I really don't get it. Trump is so desperate to make it harder for people to vote that he's fucking up mail delivery for everyone. Holy shit.

Basically the Republican controlled Senate collectively decided that Trump will face zero consequences while in office. Once his cult of support breaks down though watch how quickly a number of Republicans will switch their stance and insist that they never supported Trump.

Republicans have already shown they will not hold Trump accountable. And their base has shown they won't hold them accountable. So that's the end of that. He said it when he was running that he could shoot a man in the middle of a NY street and he base wouldn't falter. He's untouchable.

How is this relevant to the topic at hand? Trump has filled the board and the post master general positions with his own sycophants and they're actually removing sorting machines in multiple areas, which drastically reduces how much mail they can deliver.

Again, hemorrhaging money for decades, which is actually really impressive for an organization that claims to be financed purely through charging for services they provide. And given the average citizen receives nothing but junk mail and bills, paper mail delivery is on its way out.

doesn't the USPS still need congressional approval to do a lot of things as well? i remember reading something about how they wanted to raise the price of stamps but congress wouldn't let them. plus, the requirement to prefund health care obligations certainly didn't help. maybe if they could be slightly more autonomous and without political interference they wouldn't be in their current state

Its a service to be paid for not to make profit. Susan Collins & the Republican controlled Congress shadily passed legislation back in 2006 specifically targeting the postal service and placing it on this path. Theyve forced it to pre-fund pensions for some 50+ years.

If hemorrhaging money is a concern, it doesn't make sense to purposefully make it dramatically less efficient by removing sorting machines. That makes it hemorrhage more money.

lol at thinking that they weren't losing money under Clinton and Obama. Hell, in 2012 fiscal year, during Obama's term, they lost $15.9 BILLION. Mail volume has been decreasing for years, probably because I can do just about everything that used to require mail online now.

You do realize that was after Bush, right? After Bush and the Republicans passed a law forcing them to fund pensions years in advance before they had to even pay it out. Someone no one else has to do.

They didn't lose money any year Clinton was president.

You realize they claim to fund themselves through services and not taxes right? As in they charge you for stuff and that's supposed to be how they stay afloat. If you're going to make that claim, it is perfectly legitimate to criticize them for losing money.

  • 2016 - $5.6 billion loss

It does matter because sorting machines process tens of thousands of pieces of mail per hour and make the system much more efficient. There's a reason mail delivery has slowed to a crawl in many areas since they started removing them.

1) We're still in the middle of a pandemic. It isn't even safe for everyone to go to a pharmacy.
2) Not everyone can easily "just go to a pharmacy" due to disabilities anyway.

Again, you have no concept of anything other than your own individual needs and experiences.

It's also not always an option to just go to the pharmacy, for example VA medications can only be filled by VA pharmacies, which not every city has. For people on a fixed income, their only option may be to fill through an online pharmacy with a sliding scale.
