A better question is if theres enough progressive voters in the electorate.

A lot of people inappropriately conflated the youth voting rate with the progressive voting rate and it muddied the waters as it kept getting repeated. (Exacerbated by Sanders rhetoric that he was going to drive an unprecedented turnout, which didnt really happen)

While under 39s trend progressive, the average split during the primaries was 50/50. Even with a 100% turnout in that age group, it isnt necessarily true that Sanders would have won out. That'd depend on how all those votes are distributed.

Thats a cute gotcha game you're trying to play. Ive had to spend the majority of the last 100 or so posts dealing with people just hopping onto the circlejerk and have repeatedly asked to get back onto the actual issue at hand, but Ive been incessantly snubbed, as it were.

The media did this because it gets them attention. Its pathetic of them, but now were talking about them and talking about this and people went through a bunch of articles to look to see whether they talked about AOC nominating Bernie. They probably want people to stay ignorant so that we rely on them for info. I feel stupid for having not looked this up and the media is absolutely pieces of shit for letting us believe that she was getting a normal speech instead of nominating Sanders.

I can, and do, acknowledge that there weren't enough progressive voters in the primary. But I also don't think it's a conspiracy to say that these media sources, whose interests lie with profit, have a bias against Sanders/Progressives and have personal interests in keeping them away from any higher position of power. This isn't some cabal of Clintons and Kennedy's or some shit plotting things out, it's literally how capitalists will act to defend their capitalist system.

Yeah he definitely got harsh treatment from the media and other Democrats, but it's to he expected when he wasn't part of the party for most of his career and had no issue attacking them and their principles. He was never going to get the Clinton treatment, because he didn't play nice.

You lost narrative at the end there though. Whatever Bernie may call himself, he doesn't really seem to understand what socialism is (or is secretly massively disingenuous). He advocates nothing but capitalist policy and says weird stuff like "not communism, socialism like they have in Nordic countries". Anyone who is remotely leftist would be confused by both his dissociation of communism with socialism and his allegation that massively capitalist Nordic countries are actually socialist. He ran as a Social Democrat and called himself a Democratic Socialist. If he secretly planned to pursue socialist polciies then he was lying about it pretty blatantly.

Glad I was able to clear up what I meant with the media. However I don't believe I ever called Sanders a socialist, not would I even consider him one (being a socialist myself). He does threaten neoliberalism, but he's not for putting means of production in the workers hands.

Then again America has a fucked up definition of socialism. Like you've pointed out, lot of people conflate social democracy/Nordic model with socialism.

I much prefer to phrase it as Americans don't know what socialism is. Because if you accept that government doing stuff is socialism, then literally every government that has ever existed has been socialist. It defeats the purpose of labeling a particular economic model (which doesn't even require a government, since anarchosocialism lacks a government but has a socialist economic system) socialism if you consider capitalist economic models socialist if a government exists. This also leads to this weird thing where they say I want a mix of socialism and capitalism to describe the level of government they want. They basically completely conflate the top and bottom of the political compass with the left and the right. You could have the hardest right economics and the most authoritarian government and it wouldn't be socialism (though it might call itself that, hello PRC).

From skimming through it, CommonJoe voiced his complaints about how misleading the AOC endorsement was and he gets ganged up on for not doing his due diligence in reading up on the protocols and how AOC or someone in her place was required to do so.

My 2 cents, only the DNC and the media are to blame for this. They should have made it clear and shouted this from the rooftops what AOC was going to do. Remember, no one is entitled to a person's vote. The onus is on the campaign to persuade the person into giving up their time and (more importantly) their vote for them. With how easily misinformation spreads, I agree with CommonJoe that they could have done a heckuva lot more.

Right here they could have had a headline saying what she was going to do. But since they didn't, it just looks like infighting from the DNC to everyone who isn't following it intimately. They really did setup both AOC and Sanders, by association, to be smeared. There's no way they wouldn't have known this would happen. They have the brightest minds and experts in public relations to know how this would turn out.
