Smh. I'm very sorry to read your account, TC. This situation is intolerable. I'm writing a very, very angry letter right now to change it.

Why is cultural appropriation bad? It's basically multiculturalism in action.

The concept of cultural appropriation is bad because it's done in a way to give no honor or respect to the origins.

Let's take rap for example. Eminem rapping isn't cultural appropriate but it is multiculturalism in action. He's made money off of black music yes but he's also helped empower minority rappers, financed their projects, guest spots, etc.. He's actively involved within the culture and in tune to the issues. Not just him but other white rappers are like this but he's the easiest example.

Now on the flip side, Say that a record label hires some random ass white guy, pushes him into the rap genre, they make millions upon millions but do nothing to advocate for black issues, do nothing to build up anyone, etc... That would be cultural appropriation.

TLDR: Cultural appropriation is theft. Multiculturalism is sharing. TC's example with their daughter's dress is multiculturalism and the idiot woman can't understand the difference. Also she's pretty fucking racist.

Cultural appropriation should be about the soulless monetization of another people's culture with no benefit to them. EG Kim Kardashian's "Kim-ono".

This is a pretty good post. It's a messy issue to confront sometimes, but in the words of that one judge: "I know it when I see it"

Yeah. I think the best advice, especially for white people, is following the affected group's lead. Because the whole "white savior" acts, especially in this situation, is pretty racist.
