Only if the person posted it on a PlayStation or X-box board, for not adhering to the topicality of the board.

People can be moderated for anything, so yeah. It all just comes down to the whims of the mod who reads the mark and, at times, how well the person who reported you lied.

Could they? Sure, in theory.

Would they? No. They'd probably just be given one of the official VIP account levels that only developers or other professionals in the industry get.

Though moderations for advertising are more meant to stop people from spamming "Hey, come look at my Twitch channel/off-site message board/eBay sale/self-published novel/merch store", and not so much "Hey, [insert company here]'s products are great!" It's generally meant more for personal selling via posting links (especially if you spam them) and not just generally talking up a product that's on the open market.

Call it a conspiracy theory, but there are "[Paid] fanboys" that frequent gaming message boards, pulling their psy-op crap to convince the rest of the masses how "awesome this game is".....

So then the more experienced, seasoned gamers say "Not really because there is no balance, itemization, lack of innovation and unique assets...etc..." or whatever valid criticisms they use to say how "not awesome" the game truly is....*Especially when the argument of pay2win features throws off the balance of a particular game, or just in general...

Then the "Psy-op Fanboy" will fall back on the script with the usual flat defenses to justify these features, while still chanting "this game is awesome"..."and you're just jealous!", or "ha ha, too poor to buy in MTXs", or "well, I like so you do you".....the TRUE trolls of gFAQs....

....then if all that doesn't work, then they get the admins on speed dial to moderate, like the whores they are.

IIRC, you do get a bit of sway with those that run this site, if you can prove you're an established game developer or some other representative of said studio/publisher....which is probably why during the "Gamergate" debacle, mods would go all scorched earth on anyone trying to talk about it for a while.

My thoughts exactly. They'd just see how anything LoZ-related dominates any poll its in and then go back to their supervisors and say mission accomplished.

Doesn't take a whole lot of effort if that's true what Joker said,... just the occasional "This game is awesome!" post, along with set phrases from their marketing department. Then move on to NeoGAF, Reddit, /vg/, and other fanbased wikis.
