I moved recently and Metro PCs doesn't get coverage out here (Even though it's part of T-mobile and should).
My roomates have verizon but I had always thought they were super expensive and was like blaaaah, I don't wanna pay $100 a month for my cell phone....blaaaaaah. But I decided to check them out and daaaaaamn I'm glad I did. So, I had 2 g a month with metro pcs for $30, which was a pretty good deal I thought. At verizon though they have a 5 G smartphone plan, for $40 base. $10 more amonth isn't horrid for better coverage etc, but still wouldn't really make me happy. But......they also offer $5 off for signing up with autopay......which I obviously would have done anyway (don't wanna have to remember bills....what am I 20?). That was good enough right there but they ALSO have a loyalty program, which drops the price by $5 after 3 months, and another $5 after 9 months. So after 3 months my price will be the same as Metro at $30 (meaning I will have spent $15 extra bucks total), but after 9 months that drops down to $25......quickly making up for the $15 and then saving me $5 a month after that. But wait...there's more!! In addition for signing up online, they waived the activation fee, and I got a phone for $60 as well (on sale). It wasn't quite a free phone (But to get that I would have had to sign up for an unlimited plan which wouldn't make sense over all cost wise). Ended up paying just about $100 total for the phone and the first month. I had checked on upgrading my phone from metro pcs, and with the activation fee, it would have been $100 for just that (not including the $30 a month), so great deal over all. I'm telling my friends about it (already did) but figured I'd post here as well. --- Tacobot 3000 "Saving the world from not having tacos." Glowing Elephant "Stonehedge was a sex thing." ... It's probably a good idea to periodically check deals with other cell providers these days. It used to be that companies appreciated long term customers, retention mattered. It's all about new sign-ups now.

I switched to Mint Mobile recently. I'm on the 12GB plan for $25 a month. I hadn't shopped around in a few years so before that I was paying a little more and getting a lot less data.

I used to drive trucks cross-country and I love Verizon's coverage (I had service almost everywhere) but they're one of the more expensive carriers.

The 5G speed is pretty good - though I've always stuck to lower-priced data plans so I'm not sure if the more expensive ones would be faster.
Once you hit the data cap it takes about 20-30 seconds just to load a GameFAQs page. Also to get the lowest price for your data plan, you have to prepay for a year. You start at three months for the lowest price, then your price varies by how much you lock in for. --- Official King of PotD You only need one T-Rex to make the point, though. ~ Samus Sedai ... cant wait for the topic next month when he sees his bill is around $120 from fees I called and double checked, no fees or taxes, straight 40$ a month (35$ after autopay) for the first 3 months, then it's 30$ after that till 9 months, and then 25$ after that. The activation fee was waved since I enrolled online (which there normally is). --- Tacobot 3000 "Saving the world from not having tacos." Glowing Elephant "Stonehedge was a sex thing." ... Yeah, it's a pretty sweet plan really. I ain't shilling tho, there are other cheaper plans, Mint I think has a 15$ plan for instance. Long term this will be only $25 though, and Verizon has better coverage (which I need since i'm in the boondocks.
I think the phone is showing up tomorrow by fed express, which rocks hard. --- Tacobot 3000 "Saving the world from not having tacos." Glowing Elephant "Stonehedge was a sex thing." ... Copied to Clipboard!

Tried to switch to verizon. They were unable to verified my identity. They wanted a scanned copy of my driver's license and a scanned copy of either a utility bill (within last month), lease agreement (valid for current lease), vehicle registration (within last year), voter's registration card (for current year), or a valid passport.
Since I had none of the requested documents, I was denied service with verizon and I am still stuck with sprint. This was a month ago. ... Copied to Clipboard!

Is this pre-paid or a traditional plan? How much data per month?
I've got Verizon pre-paid. It's supposed to be $40 per line (I have two lines) for 3 GB. But with a $10 off the 2nd line ("multi line discount) and $5 off each line for auto-pay, it's $60/month (two lines). And there was a promotion early this year for double data that I caught and requested, so now it's 6 GB. Just curious if this deal is better than the one I have now... I barely use the data, so.... ... Copied to Clipboard!

It's called the 5G smartphone plan.
Think it's prepaid but not really sure. You get 5gig of data, it's base cost is 40$ for 1 line (I don't need multiple lines. With autopay thats 35$ right off the bat, but it qualifies for the loytalty program (which may mean it's not prepaid?). Anyway after 3 months it drops to $30 (which is what I was paying at metro PCS), and after 9 months it drops to 25. IF your current plan qualifies for the loyalty program it sounds like it's pretty much the same cost, and 1 G of data more per month (unless that is 6G of date between both phones?. I'm not sure if you can get multi-line discounts with it or what, in theory if you could get 2 of them and get a multi-line discount, that would eventually drop the price to $40 for both lines (25$ each and -10$ for multi line), and you would get 5 G of data each for 10G all together. That would be better than what you have, but only if you can get the multi-line discount with it as well. I have seen cheaper out there, like mint, I think Boost has a cheaper setup as well etc, but Verizon has really good coverage which I need, and I KNOW it works here as my roomates have it. I always heard Verizon was the most expensive, but this was shockingly low, so i'm really happy. I think my phone arrives today even! --- Tacobot 3000 "Saving the world from not having tacos."
