I just randomly remembered there being this senior who was about 20 or 21 starting out the year and disappearing about 2 or 3 weeks in.

We had resource students who were in school until 21 and students who had to miss a lot due to medical issues.

This.

Jokes aside, I couldn't tell you. I didn't care to know how old fellow students were in high school.

No. Folk left secondary school at 16. I was almost 17 with my birthday been in October and the school year ending in September though.

Lol, imagine being in school (HS) when your 21 and can legally drink.

I started a year late cause we were in Putney Vermont (middle of 50 acres of woods at the time), but I skipped a year later, so I would have graduated at the normal age pretty much, cept I skipped the last 4 years as well and graduated on my 16th birthday. I had a full scholarship so I coulda headed to college at 16, but I thought school was a waste and the reason I worked so hard to graduate early was so I could work full time lol, not go to college.

I know people used to get left back, so that explains 19-20 year olds, but can you be left back multiple years and not graduate till your 21+?

I looked it up and the oldest age you can attend high school is 25...which is wacked lol.

The youngest age you can drop out is 16, but you have to pass tests in many states to do that.

Interestingly there are no restrictions or regulations on graduating early if you complete the required coursework, which is what I did (graduated on my 16th birthday), but technically if I had gone there earlier I could have graduated by age 11 or so lol. It's still around (PACE program christian school) so you could take advantage of it today.

In this guy's case, he ended up going to Juvie at some point and missed a few years or something. It was odd honestly. I'd probably just say fuck it and get my GED at that point though. It's kind of crazy what a difference of 3 years is between high school and adulthood.

Those 3 years for me were the equivalent of ages 12-18 in terms of growth.

19 is the oldest you can graduate without having been held back. 16 is the earliest without skipping grades.

I don't recall any student older than 19 when I was in high school. We did later have a post secondary special education program, and most of the students were over 19. This program was more like a separate system from our high school.
