If you understand tuners and synchro monsters, xyz are just stacking monsters of the same star levels together to make something that can expend those materials for effects. Only real difference is they have a rank, not a level. So stuff like gravity bind wouldn't affect them at all.

GX era Yugioh was the best. Still very simple, but fairly fast paced. Then all of this nonsense came out smh.

I tried watching a tournament match the other day and it was like 20 mins for one player to complete their turn, like... aren't you just fucking playing solitaire at that point lmao?

Basically all the "new summons" with the exception of pendulums are just fusions with a different way of combining cards.

Remember Elemental Hero Neos and his fusions? Similar concept.

yeah this happened to me. i played back in 2005/2006. i still had my deck. i worked at a school about 3 years ago and saw some kids playing yugioh, so i bought my old deck and that video happened

like, every turn they would play a card and i would have to stop and read this giant paragraph and go "you WHAT?!"

meanwhile my biggest move was summoning Summon Skull.

Pendulums are confusing and I never bothered to properly learn how to play them, but literally all the other summoning methods are braindead easy and anyone that fails to understand them is just refusing to read what amounts to one sentence of text.

I'd argue that Synchros are probably the second most confusing summoning method, and a lot more people seem to understand that one.

It would be hilarious to see some punk kid pull all that bullshit only for his opponent to Exodia his ass. Old school FTW.

Some text boxes are a bit ridiculous though, even considering problem solving card text. Even if they make sense after you read the whole thing, some cards are just obnoxiously long.

Actually yeah, I remembered that Links have a couple extra factors that go into their summoning, but it takes like a minute to learn so it's still not too bad. I understand how Synchros work, I've just never had a deck focused around them. Before Links, Xyz was the go-to summoning method for extra deck monsters that existed to solve a specific problem. They were way more splashable than fusion/ritual/synchro so the summoning method was also relatively easy. Basically any deck can cram Xyz or Links without changing the main deck.

Nah, I mean the fundamentals of the game were flawed from the onset. MtG may have evolved into a nightmare, but you can take the basic rules and still have a fun game.

I don't play either anymore. Tried Hearthstone, but that one's also got fundamental flaws. The only ccg I've played that absolutely nails it is PVZ Heroes.

Pendulums are actually relatively simple, its just that the graphic design is asstastic. It's essentially just two cards mushed together and given a number called a "scale".

Is it in the monster zone? It's a pendulum monster. use the monster effect.
Is it in the pendulum zone? It's a pendulum spell. Use its pendulum effect.

Pendulum Summon: Do you have two pendulum spells? Take a nice squat over the playmat and poop out whatever monsters you want. The only stipulation is that their levels need to be between the two scales. (If your pendulum scales are 2 and 7, you can summon any monsters level 3-6.)

Recursion: Pendulum cards go to the Extra Deck when they're destroyed. Whenever you pendulum summon, you can use those monsters as if they were in your hand.

The main thing to know about Pendulum cards tho, is that Pendulum Magicians are the best archetype ever and fuck Konami

got used to Synchros and I think theyre great. XYZ is a great concept to me as well. Pendulums I am not a fan of, it seems way too complicated and Im glad to hear that it never got super overpowered. Links are too easy and generic imo and Konami clearly made them and changed the rules to nerf all other summoning types in order to sell cards (which is fair, its a business at the end of the day.) Apparently rules are changing so you can Fusion/Synchro/XYZ normally without worrying about arrows which is how it shouldve been from the start

Man, I missed the "yugioh is too complicated now" crowd. I admit ti leaving the game after Link Monsters came out, but that was because I didn't like Master Rule 4. Now that Master Rule 5 is out I can go back to the game. That's why I bought Legacy of the Duelist: Link Evolution on Ps4.

Aaaah. Yugioh. Remember Season 1? Remember when we played based on the rules from the TV show at the time in the early 00s? Remember when if you drew Dark Magician you just played it right off. No sacrifices, none of that?

Seems so long ago, now...

Then they banned Monster Reborn.

Then they unbanned it but made it limited.

And then...

And then......

And then..........

Now it's almost as complex as Magic. If not moreso at times. The poor Mangaka... he created a monster. He just wanted Yugi to be the King of Games... all games...

It's not complicated, just annoying. All these different effects and shit and really all it does is end up with a few different ways to summon overpowered monsters in your first or second turn. Games don't last long at all.
