People need to stop looking at things through race/gender, an article headlined "black male murdered by white cop" misses the point entirely and should say something along the lines of "corrupt cop kills innocent man he was sworn to protect" but the 1st one sells more so that's what they'll put on there despite it being more divisive

Headlines do that but when Arv reads comments on Twitter. Theyre all about the color and gender of someone before anything else and these people are suppose to be sjw

If there are grounds to suspect that the cop felt he was at liberty to take the action he did because of the guy's race, whereas he might have acted more cautiously if the guy was of a different race, then race does become a factor.

The problem with that is racism and corruption are rampant in police departments and always has been. They police literally started as slave patrols and they had a long history of involvement with the KKK (including police with active membership in some areas)

Even today Police still disproportionately arrest black people.

Shutting down the discussion by saying its too divisive means the issue won't actually be fixed. Timing with covid aside, the protests being this widespread are a good thing.

While I agree that there is a huge disparity of justice in this country for minorities, I still feel the best solution is to solve the entire problem as much as possible (drastically reducing the total population that goes to jail/prison, and the reasons for sending them there, improving conditions and actually rehabilitating people who are sent to prison, while training them for a job when they get out etc).

Meanwhile retraining police to not use violence unless violence is used against them, to use non-leather measures (stun guns/tranq guns etc), and to be a force for good, not a force for profit (only give tickets if someone has a warning on their record (warning the first time except in extreme cases), no tickets for things that are not a danger to the public (parking more then 2 inches from a curb, not totally stopping when no cars are around etc).

There is no easy solution, but the first solution should be to ensure the police are a PUBLIC SERVICE , that the public actually wants, is fair to all, and is a positive force in this country.

Jails/prisons should only be there to safeguard the citizens and ensure that when people get released, they are more likely to not commit future crimes and have more opportunities then they had when they were incarcerated.

Focusing on one race, or the persecution of minorities/the poor etc, is not going to solve the problem, it's going to hide the problem, and spread the problem out among more people maybe, but it's not going to solve it.

Fix the system, so even if you have a prejudiced cop, they have no power to really inflect harm on those they dislike/hate etc. Enforce cameras for all, at all times, to ensure nothing is going on behind the scenes, abuses of power etc.

Race should not be an issue, it is, but it shouldn't be, and I personally believe the best solution is to make the solution NOT be a race issue, but instead a viable upgrade to our system all together, that incorporates protections against racism etc, but primarily improves the lives of all citizens and ensures a fair system where everyone can feel safe and not prosecuted/hunted by their own police force.

I'd also add that police should be accountable to someone outside of the police force, the police union does a lot to protect cops from the consquences of their actions.

I should mention that I agree with systemic change being the priority, I just think shutting the race discussion down entirely does a disservice as there's still a lot of people who don't seem aware or don't believe that its a problem when its one of the root causes of the problem.

Except that's false. Cops can ignore things if they want to.

Oh, American cops were never sworn to protect black people. American cops are simply an extension of the old runaway slave catchers, and their job is to ensure that black people remain incarcerated in the industrial prison complex where they can be exploited for cheap labor. And they get away with saying they're not slaves because they're technically paid (a handful of cents an hour). The fact that many American prisons are literally located in the exact same place as former Confederate plantations and owned by the same families is apparently irrelevant.

Why would they use words like "corrupt" that are liable to libel when they can just use objective descriptors like "white" and use people's personal agendas to imply stuff they never wrote? People are easily manipulated so there's no need to get tour own hands dirty.
