Lazlow Jones, best known for his radio shows in the Grand Theft Auto Series has left Rockstar Games after almost 20 years with the company.
Lazlow Jones was also a Writer and Producer for Rockstar Games, yes he did a whole lot more than just talk on Radio Shows in Grand Theft Auto. He first joined the company in April 2001 and made his first Radio appearance in Grand Theft Auto: III, in Grand Theft Auto V, Lazlow made an appearance as a character as the host of Fame Or Shame.
His departure from the company has been due to personal reasons with Family Members becoming seriously ill he announced on Instagram, with the Pandemic making things even more difficult, this meant Lazlow left Rockstar Games in April 2020. (Also announced on Linkedin)
We wish Lazlow and all his family all the best for the future, Lazlow has also announced that he has several other projects that hes working on, including Shows for Netflix and Disney and projects with other Video Games companies.
Lazlow has joined Dan Houser and Leslie Banzies as one of the main people at Rockstar to leave in recent times

A lot of changes at Rockstar lately. GTA without Lazlow as a radio personality sounds weird to me. Hopefully he can come back briefly for that. Otherwise health concerns for family is a more than valid enough reason.

Gta6 is at minimum 4 years away.

That is a shame. Chatterbox is the only station i used to have running all the time in GTA 3 back in the day. I used to be able to just quote it word for word. At this point they should probably just add more maps and things to GTA online

I'm not passing judgement. Quite the opposite.

It's just video games. But family health concerns overrides any other potential reason he would have wanted to leave so no point speculating if anything else is the cause.

Rockstar is starting to remind me of the Van der Linde gang. It used to be this creative family that did good, but now greed and madness have taken over and people are starting to jump ship. There was Leslie Benzies, Dan Houser, and now Lazlow.

Man I loved Lazlow in GTA VCS and in IV.

They have lost a lot of people that really made the games so special, I am going to guess most of them left because they dont like the microtransactions that have been killing the company creatively since GTA online became a thing.

Good, gta needs a.new serious direction from the goofy storylines, leave that shit to the radio.

GTA bore was a lame lack luster game, besides the graphics, and physics for the time there is nothing that made it some amazing GTA. The more serious direction with all that bleak bullshit was hated by many and the game got all kinds of gripes which GTA 5 addressed.

It's more than likely going to get more silly. People almost had a stroke over GTA4 and they wanted their over the top stuff back and V went way to far in that direction. It's only going to get more over the top from here. It means there's more military vehicles and spy stuff Rockstar and Take Two can sell to people and get them to buy shark cards. GTA 5 was more of a spy/mercenary game than a crime game.

GTA 6 will be GTA Online 2.

Lazlows talk show was always my favorite thing to listen to. I dont think it ever topped GTA3 but that may be because I was younger. I think his character becoming more bitter in other games wasnt as funny. Either way I'll miss my favorite talk show host.

Regarding Lazlow in GTA, I have this wild theory that each universe diverge only because of Lazlow's influence (or the lack of thereof).

The 2D GTAs (GTA 1, London 1969, and 2) is the GTA universe where Lazlow simply doesn't exist.

In the 3D GTAs (GTA3, Vice City and Vice City Stories, Liberty City Stories, and San Andreas) Lazlow gradually develops from a typical GTA universe caricature into a (relatively) sane and balanced person. Just compare his Vice City Stories self to what he's like in GTA3. It's like night and day. Even in San Andreas he's still a feeble-minded loser.

However, in the HD universe (GTA4 and 5), he never ceased to be the wimpy weirdo caricature he started out as.

All three universes are very different, but the names of the locations and some vehicles are shared. Lazlow is present in two, but not in the third.

Lol Wat, Rockstar have had a huge Michael Mann boner for years. Max Payne 3 wore it most obviously, but gtav still did too. It had some goofy parts, but it wasn't even as whacky as San Andreas or something like saints row 2 at all, it was still very much grounded in realism, especially in how quickly you die and the whole aesthetic. Trevor was the only real over the top thing in the game. Now, gta online is an entirely different beast, but all the vehicles and tools for fun in the single player experience have basically been unchanged since launch and still fairly realistic. Now hey hover bikes, or orbital strikes and shit like online has.

GTA needs to go back to the San Andreas vibe, but not go as whacky as saints row.
