Microsoft is in some serious trouble even IF their console is cheaper.

And there are few games bigger than Final Fantasy, which will reportedly take centre stage at the event.

As for the imminent PS5 event, other rumours suggest that Sony will finally unveil its Silent Hill reboot.

The next Call of Duty release - titled Black Ops Cold War - may also get a gameplay reveal at the upcoming event.

Previous rumours have suggested that Sony is working on a PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale sequel, while Konami may be planning a new Metal Gear Solid game.

Interestingly, the event will reportedly also feature a segment dedicated to Backwards Compatibility. This should clear up any confusion about what kind of support Sony is planning for older PlayStation consoles.

Imagine the chaos if tomorrow Sony announces a new Final Fantasy, a new Metal Gear, a new Silent Hill, a new Black Ops, and a new Smash bros clone, along with proper backwards compatibility, all in the same event.

I would love for both consoles to be a wild success, and I'm not sitting here rooting for one over the other, but given that the combined cost at launch is going to be in the $1,200 range, possibly more if you count accessories, tax and whatnot, I imagine most people will be forced to pick one for budget reasons.

I understand where you're coming from, but between Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Dragon Quest XI doing so well, I genuinely have hope that 16 might be a return to form of some kind.

I know how stupid it sounds, that the sixteenth installment of a franchise is going to be a good one, but I think they're putting out better games now than they did last gen or earlier in the current gen and I don't think they're going all out on the bluster like they did early in the PS3's lifecycle.

13 was divisive, and it took years of troubled production for it to come out. They threw tens of millions of dollars into that game, and they went all out on "turn-based battles are dead, we're modernizing the JRPG", and it didn't land. They had to recoup their costs by making a trilogy of XIII games with the same tech as the first game, shunting Versus to the side for years, while nuking the launch version of 14 and starting again from scratch. Then 15 came out and that was divisive - better received than 13, but it definitely had its failures, leading to planned content getting scrapped and its director leaving the company.

But since then, we've got a Final Fantasy 7 Remake that actually strikes a workable balance between ARPG and JRPG mechanics, and while I don't think any Dragon Quest game has been received poorly per se, it's still encouraging that XI has done so well. I honestly think that Final Fantasy XVI could cap off a trifecta of awesome releases, signifying that Square Enix has learnt from its biggest mistakes and are back in the business of making great games.

Silent Hill and Final Fantasy XVI being a timed exclusive has been rumoured for a while though. Although the latter is probably just bring assumed because Sony has been aggressive with timed exclusives and Final Fantasy VII Remake was one.

Isnt this true with Xbox Live and Nintendo Online as well?

I don't really know why people are expecting another big PS5 State of Play before launch. If there was one I'm sure it would mainly show the OS and BC features, the launch games and not have many big game announcements like what's in the OP. Sony generally only ever have one big show a year.

They've basically revealed the first year or so of the console and who knows if they'll avoid delays.

Maybe Silent Hill will get announced if Japan Studio is making it.

The article sources Resetera and even that isn't exactly sourced well.

The original source was someone who predicted a bunch of stuff right for the June event (even though a lot was wrong) and they're basically now just saying that Final Fantasy XVI is timed exclusive. The other stuff about MGS, All-Stars, the event etc. Aren't in the topic they sourced at all.

So Silent Hill is probably a thing. Final Fantasy is probably timed exclusive. The rest is made up.
