I am, but probably after work. Atm they're having some weird server problems, I think. Beta is out early, it was supposed to release at 9PM PST iirc.

Well, I tried out the beta last night for a few hours. From my first impressions, it was fairly mediocre.

The beta is a technological mess that I hope doesnt carry over into the actual release. There are a lot of performance issues. The motion blur is among the worst Ive ever seen in any video game. The camera shaking is annoying. The beta itself is riddled with bugs and glitches not to mention it can crash or overheat your console even if youre sitting the menu doing nothing. FPS is laughably bad on consoles. The more characters fighting on screen, the worse the game runs. I hope none of these issues are present at launch but people are already turned off after experiencing these problems.

The gameplay itself is just okay. Everything character plays the exact same in the beginning but they do grow into their own roles after you grind them out for a bit. I hope mission variety is more diverse in the actual game because it was a lot of the same structure in the beta which is not good. Personally, I couldnt see myself playing this for more than a few hours without succumbing to boredom. The beat em up gameplay is fairly mindless but you do have to pay attention on the hardest difficulty. Speaking of difficulty, try to have a squad of people if youre going to play the harder missions. The A.I. cannot handle aggro or large crowds of enemies at all.

The loot aspect of this game didnt feel rewarding. It doesnt help that visually speaking, the game doesnt look super so the appeal of many of the skins is lost on the player which is a big deal since thats part of the driving force of the game. Its not Spider-Man PS4 or Batman Arkham where I want to traverse the world since it looks cool. Everything in this game just looks generic and soulless.

The narrative presented so far is silly. The Avengers have been disbanded by the public over what is clearly a sabotage. Now, Inhumans are running around uncontrolled and you would think the Avengers would be perfect for maintaining peace but Marvel citizens have always lacked intelligence. You can also tell how dated this games story is given how Marvel tried pushing Inhumans as the replacement for mutants a few years ago but it never caught on because nobody likes Inhumans.

Lastly, the roster itself is a little lacking. This definitely needs more interesting characters as the base roster feels like its desperately trying to cash in on MCU hype too late. Ms. Marvel serves as the players window into this world but her annoyance has no limits especially since shes almost constantly in fangirl mode. Id also like to point the mistake of getting popular voice actors for this game. I dont hear Bruce Banner, Natasha Romanoff, or Tony Stark. I hear Troy Baker, Laura Bailey, and Nolan North.

Ultimately, I would wait to buy this game. Let more content and characters become available first then make the purchase.
