How much in terms of expenses.

Where do you keep your emergency fund?

I dont feel comfortable with under a year, though I know the rule of thumb is 6 months. I keep around 16 months.

Probably keep around 3 months in checking, included in that number.

In this day and age, people should really have two years' worth if they're able. However, I'm not entirely sure that's sufficient as a back-up plan any more given the worldwide supply chain disruptions we've seen. Back in 2008, the biggest concern was loss of savings and long-term unemployment which was strictly a money issue. Going forward, even if you have the money, it might not always be possible to get what you need when society grinds to a halt. You might not even have electricity, as we've seen with recent storms.

I have 6 months paid on all my bills. Thats Mortgage, electricity, car insurance, etc.

What I have in the bank is nobodys business.

I also have a wide range of stocks to sell in case of an emergency. And I also have a 401k I can dip into and take a loan against if necessary, although with those 6 months of paid bills I have never had to take a loan. And I dont foresee me ever having to.

I have an entire year's salary - although I will be dipping into that since I'm now working part time and going back to school (again!).

If I had to guess - I think that would be about 2 years or so of expenses - I'm not 100% sure since my wife and I split some of the bills.
