Board 8 > Guardian Tales is the coolest F2P game I've played

Its an action rpg Gacha that has a metroidvania vibe where there are secret items and quests Behind false walls and others you can only get after getting more power ups later in the game. The writing is pretty witty too.

The grind stuff isnt bad either, as far as I can tell there is very little you have to do every day.

You should check it out if you are interested in the genre.

Notes:

Opening reminds me kind of Paper Mario so far with how the camera moves and the character sprites are on the environment.
Now feels more Minish Cap.

Kind of fun, might play some more.

Biggest downside so far is rubbing and rotating directional buttons have caused my screen protector to slip and come loose.

I think it's possible to get a PS4 controller to work with a phone without additional hardware. But that setup obviously isn't as portable as just a phone.

Seems like kind of a silly breaking point.

Though I do have my first real complaint. Lost to a boss and there is a long unskipable cutscene before it. That's annoying

Not joking the laura diary side quest line was a better side quest then all of the side quests in most AAA games I've played.

What the hell. It was up there with some Witcher 3 side quests

despite acting like a jerk earlier in this topic, I decided to check this out. Neat game. Not sure how long I'll play it, but I'd at least like to finish the story, assuming it doesn't get too grindy in the later chapters.

If I'm ever gonna play a gacha, I guess it'd be one that's an action RPG. I still think gachas are kinda morally reprehensible tho.

there's this annoying bug that pops up a LOT in chapter 2 where certain text boxes are halfway off the screen. that and the fact that the text boxes advance automatically mean I'm missing more dialogue than I'd like

I think chapter 2 was the worst with that.

The story is surprisingly good. Ive played about a week now and Im at the end of 5 with garbage pulls. Im a little stuck now but you can get pretty far before it slows down.

chapter 3 was especially awesome

The overarching sub quest of world 3 with Laura's diary was amazing.

Spoilers I guess for w8 so don't read if you care.

I felt going for a mix of Frozen + Phoenix Wright was an odd choice, but everything culminating in not!cornered playing near the end of W8 made me hype as fuck and do a 180. The end was also touching, if not a bit of a downer considering what the overarching plot was. It was the obvious outcome however.

I got super lucky on pulls plus I threw $20 at it for daily diamonds + that one package deal that gave me enough for an extra pull for just joining.

So I did roughly three extra pulls compared to the usual f2p whom clears all the story/nm content when accounting for the pulls giving me decent gear for placing respectably in arena/coloseum.

Chapter 6 was fun

1/2 star items are good enhancement matetial if they are Lv.20+ as Enhance only looks at level instead of grade. They are good random evo food.

Random evo everything,

a level 40 1* will be a level 40 5* through random evo, and you get 10 gems and a % attack boost every time you find a new item.

I have summoned 198 times and have one 3* hero (Bari) and 2 4* unique equips to show for it.

I made an alt account for kicks and got Marina on my first summon.

I am conflicted.

Are they at least for heroes you use?

I got Innocent and Amorak, but my only unique hero is Idol Eva. I also pulled Libera for Knight, so maybe I should try for a mono-basic team? I feel like I need both Lahn and her weapon though, and I don't see that happening anytime soon.

I'm kinda frustrated. I feel like I need a few more good heroes or weapons to commit to a team, but everything I've got is so scattered.

The thing I hate about this game is the bottlenecks. The stamina cap is low, stamina takes forever to regain, and the limit on awakening rifts is just needlessly cruel. I don't want to commit too many awakening stones to different heroes until I have a good team.

So Ive been playing the new account but logging into the old one. Figure with all the free rolls coming up I would just tread water with the old one to see if anything dramatically changes. Did a 10 pull for weapons and saw a unique and wondered if old account was going to get interesting.

I've been impressed by Marina. I initially wasn't interested because she was boring. Then I realized that the entire point of her was to not play as her and have her just sit around not dying while you shoot things.

7-5 feels harder because it becomes a glorified solo fight ~10-20 seconds in because of AI being unable to process his laser attack.

Going to save gems on these banners I think. Not really interested in either hero. I'll probably use my free pulls on Eugene. Idk

Honestly if you've got a team already, I don't see how anyone can justify spending gems on hero pulls. It's good at the beginning to get good units, and then way late in the game to farm hero crystals, but for 2700 gems, you could refresh the awakening dungeon 5 times and still have enough gems to buy 600 stamina (if you spread it out over 12 days)

I think with how these events give bonuses for team comps it pushes you to have more than one team. Especially if your one team doesn't have a good range or cannon option.

Which isn't really a bad thing as the game would get stale if you could just role in with the same 4 every stage.

Also I desperately need an Anabelle for my genocide >_>
