Do you think Amber should be set free?

It's been less than a year since 31 y/o Former Cop Amber Guyger has been in Prison for the accidental killing of 26 y/o Botham Jean in Texas and now it's been revealed she has APPEALED to overturn her 2019 murder conviction and wants out NOW over COVID-19 fears!!!

Her defense team is hoping to overturn the murder conviction to negligent homicide, citing insufficient evidence

She is currently serving 10 years in a Texas Prison after shooting dead Jean in his OWN apartment which she mistook for her own and claimed a long 15 hour shift confused her on which apartment to go into.

During the trial she testified she went into the wrong floor and mistook his apartment for her own and shot him dead believing he was an intruder after he "forcibly" came at her and believed it was justified to use force..

Her lawyers say there is insufficient proof she committed murder because a) she believed with reasonable belief that she entered her apartment and b) there was an intruder inside believing it was her apartment and she had the right to act with deadly force in self defense

They previously laid out the complex where they lived as she lived directly about Jean's on the 4th floor and said after 71 tenant interviews that 44% said they walked into the wrong apartment and floor and 23% said they gone ot the wrong door and entered their key into the lock

The case drew wide attention as people sided with BOTH sides as BLM protested the act was murder and others say it was an "accident". Botham's brother and judge also drew scrutiny when they FORGAVE guyger for the murder as the judge presiding over the case went to hug the defendant.

Her racist and offensive posts on black people were also revealed when texting with co-workers.

Do you think Amber should be set free?

If she's going into other people's apartments cause she mixed theirs and hers up, doesn't bode well for the quality of her judgment imo.

Like wtaf. In what universe does this make sense as a defense for someone who basically has the power of life and death over people? How would this not cause concern about her ability to distinguish threat from non threat?

The more we let police do shit like this, the more they're going to make shit ass 'judgement calls'. Flat out.

I don't fully trust the occupant came at her as an actual threat. Probably came to see wtaf was going on.

Out of that 44% how many have shot someone? I'd imagine if it weren't just her they'd be screaming that from the rooftops, so I have to assume it's not something other people have been doing.

I was going to remark about the silliness of objecting to an appeal, but then I recalled you didn't even want a trial for her.

What was the justification for the claim it was a deliberate murder?

...lolwut? It was the end of a 15-hour shift and she got off on the wrong floor. Unless you've never made a directional mistake in your life, I would question your judgment right now.

That's not even a cop defense, that would be a take on the Castle Doctrine. Anybody could make that same argument (at least in a state with the Castle Doctrine)

would intentionally leaving prisoners to get infected be considered cruel and unusual,... or would it be considered 'new normal' and acceptable?

people make mistakes. it's one thing to be tired, get off on the wrong floor and even start trying to open a door that you think is yours. I've done it before. But eventually I realized "oh shit, this isn't my apartment" after my key didn't work, looked around and realized the paint was different and realized I was on the floor lower than mine. What I didn't do was somehow get so agitated that I pulled out a gun and shot someone to death. This was also after a 16 hour shift at the hospital.

this lady is fucking stupid. there are some serious mental gymnastics one has to do to go from "whoops wrong apartment" to *pew pew* "my life was being threatened".

I mean we cant just make Covid 19 the new Free Get Out Of Jail Card. Now theres even more of a reason NOT to go to jail. As if being butt fucked by Big Gus and/or Tyrone wasnt enough.

Those mental gymnastics as you say are called, Conspiracy theories. And the right love to use those in place of critical thinking anytime it benefits their cause and warped view of the world.

That's the thing. You work at a hospital but she's a cop. Shooting black people is second nature for her.

She was to enter the apartment using her key. You weren't able to enter using your key, and you probably weren't carrying a gun.

Innocent people in jail can rot there even after the judge and prosecutors for their trial express doubt about the verdict and regret it.

People can have new evidence discovered and still not be allowed an appeal because they didn't file it within a narrow time frame from when the evidence was discovered....

And this bitch thinks she deserves an appeal just b/c she...wants one?

Fuck her! Her sentence was way too light as it is.

Double her sentence. No way she's repentant if she wants to pay less than a year of her own life for killing an unarmed man in his own home just for having the wrong color skin.

Why would you make it a race thing? She thought it was her house, it's not like she wouldn't shoot a white home invader.
