Who is going to help fund properties and their upkeep if residents aren't paying rent? It falls on the "landlord". Not all landlords are giant companies with money and loans to keep themselves afloat. Some are just average people who are renting a property with the expectation of receiving money in return.

Outside the courthouse, attorneys and litigants were met with a wall of protesters as they tried to enter the building. Some attempted to shove their way inside only to be forced back. Others, including tenants, succeeded in talking their way past the demonstrators, or slipping in through a side entrance to City Hall, which is connected to the courthouse by a breezeway.

The Orleans Parish Sheriff's Office deputies who guard the building mostly watched from inside a breezeway.

One staffer for a family law attorney grinned as she took a cellphone video of protesters chanting around her as they stopped her at the front entrance. She resorted to using a back gate on Poydras Street and sliding past protesters to get inside so she could file paperwork.

I think its awesome, but I have work to do, the woman said. Im not trying to do evictions.

Judges in the building handle a wide variety of cases, from fender-benders to child custody disputes to asbestos lawsuits. Walt Pierce, the court spokesman, said they would reschedule some hearings.

All of the judges, attorneys, litigants, witnesses and visitors seeking entry to the courthouse were affected in one way or another by the activities outside of the courthouse not just the parties to eviction proceedings, he said. Judges are rescheduling cases where needed for that very reason.

Well at least some got through, and these people are pieces of shit for holding up matters that don't involve evictions

Maybe the landlords should join the protests then? The government failed them, and that failure could result in many of them losing their properties. Evicting people hardly helps their cause here unless they were looking to sell the properties to a bank or something after removing the tenant, in which case they kinda do deserve being picked on

My landlords have always been the stereotypical broke dude driving a barely running little car. My first landlord out of college committed suicide after he lost half of his apartment complex to a fire in 2012. He was a good (lenient!) guy who probably wasnt going to recover.

This is just shifting the blame away from the people who will perpetuate the damage and making another victim in the process.
