And is it true that they waive GPA scores somewhat once you're out of school long enough or have GPA forgiveness because my grades were pretty terrible. My friend mentioned this to me a while back but I forget what its called or whatever.

I wanna go back for a Master's since my degree in Biology is worthless.

You need to have a specific job in mind that you can't get without the degree

You did indeed stab me in the back. However, you are only level one, whilst I am level 50. That means I should remain uninjured.

Well I can't get any jobs in Biology, so I figure anything is better.

What do you want to do? I know we've talked about this before and you've indicated interest now in a few different career fields, but I'll stand by what I've said before: your degree is worth a lot more than you think.

An MBA is a huge monetary and time investment and I think you could get a good job (depending on what you want to do) with a lot less work through a well-crafted, targeted resume and honed interviewing skills. And from what you descibed, I think a lot of jobs would be more satisfying than what you currently do.

I think you could do well with an MBA too but it's not even close to a golden ticket.

I strongly urge you to keep this in mind. Advanced degrees are very expensive, they take a lot of effort to obtain, and if you dont have a specific job in mind then theyll be as useless as your undergrad degree.

As with a lot of things: it depends. In general, if you've been out of school for 5-10+ years, your GPA will matter a lot less than work experience than it would if you were coming straight out of undergrad.

Honestly the problem is not going to be getting into an MBA program. It's getting into an MBA program that will provide demonstrable value to your portfolio. There are plenty of places out there that are basically willing to admit anybody to a part-time MBA program who can pay for the degree.

Many jobs in the hard sciences are gatekept by graduate degrees; even entry-level lab work can often be restricted to those with master's degrees. this is not an uncommon experience at all among my friends with undergrad degrees in the hard sciences

It more than tripled my income, but I was a pretty weird/unique case.

Generally I'd say its worth it but this is remarkably bad timing...

Pretty much. Unfortunately.

I'm on lunch in a bit so I can say more but while I'm stuck working I brainstorm stuff and this came to mind.

Frankly, the value of an MBA is very dependent on where you get it. I'm about to move to Connecticut for my MBA, but I managed to snag a spot in one of the top schools for it. In some places, an MBA is worth only a bit more than the paper it's printed on.

As far as GPA goes, the big schools care about it even if it's been a while (because it demonstrates you can handle the academic wringer), but I don't know about mid-sized schools. What matters more is your work history -- not just what your job does but how you've excelled at it -- your recommendations, and your GMAT score. Study your ass off for the GMAT. It's what propelled me from having good grades at a no-name school to an Ivy.

If your school doesn't require a GMAT score, it's probably (not definitely) not worth it. Check to see what median post-graduation income is for their class and percentage of people who got jobs within six months.

Honestly just one of my flights of fancy. I honestly don't wanna do school again at all, and I know studying for the GRE/GMAT is going to be miserable because I'm just an awful test taker.

I'm basically finishing up my time at my miserable, awful job that I fully intend on quitting. I applied for a certification course at a CC, but like Bartz said I would just...like to find work with my actual degree. I do like business and supply chain stuff, and I worked in quality control after graduating.

But my resume sucks, and I really just dont know what to do and where to start. Like what job titles to be looking for and how to fix my resume, which I actually had some guy do for me and it probably sucks eggs itself considering how much stuff I had to edit. And it's in PDF format so editing it is a major pain in the ass.

The best idea would probably be attending a MBA application seminar. Because of the 'rona I imagine most of them are virtual right now, and they usually have admissions officers from top schools (Michigan, Harvard, etc.) give lots of tips on what to include, what not to include, and what resources to help you if you're struggling with certain parts.

Titles don't mean that much; experience and accomplishments do.

As for finding work within your degree... an MBA could get you there, but it's pretty rare. If that's your goal, you probably want another "hard science" degree.

EDIT: With a hard science degree, the most dreaded part of the GMAT (math portion) shouldn't be much of a hurdle. Just make sure your English is top-notch, both grammar and communication structure.

"An" MBA is what it usually becomes in speech since you pronounce it "emm"

But really, who gives a crap.

You dont need to stay in a science field with a biology degree. I have a bunch of friends with BSs in biology and nothing else that have gone on to consulting, finance, food science, etc. A lot of jobs just require a degree.

Well the first step if anything would be to just do some practice tests for the gre/gmat just to see if I could ever pass an official one.

Thanks for the input regardless, I definitely gotta fix my resume. I honestly probably think it's bad

More later, chiropractor time

Also going to talk to my psychiatrist tomorrow who encouraged me to find a career because I am smart (his words)
