Nobody should be using it. You don't see hispanics going around calling each other the s word, or asians calling each other the c word. The fact that black americans are ok with that, shows they have a long way to go.

I am particularly interested in what my black CEmen have to say about this.

I've talked to a few people over the years who say that they use the N-word in reference to each other as a synonym for "bro" or "friend," and that this has a way of sort of rectifying (if I'm using the right word here) the negative connotations that the word has garnered from the centuries of slavery and mistreatment.

Basically it's like reappropriating a word to help heal the wounds the word has contributed toward.

Does that make sense? And is that true IYO?

you haven't responded with logic or reason, though; you were just taking a jab at black people.

and even if Hispanic or Asian people might not use slurs aimed at their people to greet each other, they often use the n-word.

Basically any hood in NYC. It's the same here in Brooklyn.

I'm black and to me It boils down to AAVE. If you grew up on that and in that atmosphere and I hear you say it, I don't really care. Color is irrelevant.

But if you didn't, which is easy to tell, I'm gonna pause and tell you to stop.

And lol at the people saying we should stop entirely. We have it. Deal with it. Live with it - it'll probably disappear in 100 years given how language is constantly changing.

It makes sense to pretty much everyone that actually pays any attention to the rappers/comedians of the black community. Which happen to be the 2 groups that benefit off being straight forward and outspoken. Hell, a lot of white comedians will break it down for you too now in days. But if you want to listen to politicians or the far removed communities politicize it/use it for distraction tactics and take their word as bond. Go ahead and remain an idiot, no pubes off my sack.

There's also other routes to become more aware. This is just the one that worked for me.

Edit: the "You" isn't actually directed at who I quoted. Jic that wasn't obvious

The N word isn't the only demeaning slur that has become unacceptable over the years.. There are slurs for homosexuals, mentally handicapped, women etc etc that has helped spread hate and disrespect. But you know, deal with it, live with it, it's not on you to behave properly and let hateful and demeaning slurs die.

The worst part is having to listen to people period. you can just ignore it and people are control freakish regardless. There are things I care about and don't. And I'd have to say that is the worst part. And there are worse things than the N word. It's more the intent.

It's funny how some people still think all black people speak for all other black people.

Go take your "pass" and see how it works out other places.

That person isn't even a good friend, otherwise they'd care that they're potentially setting you up for an embarrassing public moment

But do you understand how the context of a black person using it is way different than the context of a white person? Sometimes intentions don't mean shit. Like with how the mods here operate. You're still gonna catch heat. It's not hard to just not use it. I was a poser ass teen and I took it out my vocabulary as soon as I realized what was going on. Was insanely easy.

The n-word started unacceptable than grew to become acceptable among black Americans. I'm speaking from the point of black communities reclaiming the word. People saying to stop that need to learn to deal with it.

It really depends on how you see problematic. I have a black friend. We were just talking and he was like I'll be a "N Word" until the day I die as far as the system is concerned. I had no problem with that. It is problematic when the system in and of itself is racist.

I believe that there are other words in the English dictionary you can use to express love for one another fam. Instead of using a word that was/is used to keep us down, I wish we could move past it but Im not naive and I know thats not the world we live in. So keep saying it. Anyone can say it within context. If someone uses it in anger or in a racist way then they are clearly being racist. The word isn't gonna go away. Some blacks are totally against it while others have different views. I wouldn't say it to someone I didn't know and if they weren't happy I said it I would respect that and not say it in front of them. Plain and simple. I know down south in America in general it's preferred only blacks say it, but in a few major cities north it's generally accepted by many blacks.

Really anyone can be racist or ignorant in todays day and age. Even black people. It depends on how you see it. I'm white. I've had people saying I think things I don't even think. It happens. Because of people's ignorance and insecurities and everything else. I can at least acknowledge that. Be sensitive towards people. But really sometimes you are and that's just not possible. People are going to misjudge regardless. That's no way to live.
