Board 8 > Final Fantasy XIV's free trial now includes rest of ARR and all of Heavensward

In other words, it's been extended from a level 35 cap (which wasn't very much) to level 60, which means you can now play the rest of the base game, plus the whole of it's first expansion, which is easily weeks worth of free content. This has only just come out from today's Live Letter stream, but it seems to be as of the 5.3 patch next month.

So if you've ever tried it before but didn't see what all the fuss is about (which is understandable given what you're allowed to play in the existing free trial), you now get to experience where FFXIV starts to pick up. Heavensward isn't quite Shadowbringers quality but it's still very enjoyable and a huge upgrade on the ARR story and content.

Wow, that's a massive upgrade.

Having access to two previous level caps just adds so much content, but plus the ARR story sucks but Heavensward actually has a good plot. (It's not really my thing but many people love it and I understand why)

Also the patch contains a re-work of ARR so hopefully the ARR plot isn't as bad now.

Like, giving away all of the base game and a whole expansion for free is just mindblowing. That's a massive amount of game content.

god damnit. i was at ARR level cap for a while and last month dropped 36 on shadowbringers and a month of game time before deciding i still wasn't into it after like 10 more hours and dropping it again

So I have an active account still sitting in the beginning of heavensward. If I were to cancel my subscription, would I still be able to play, or is the free trial status on the account not able to be restored?

So my usual MMO question- if I just want to follow the storyline, is it doable (and fun) solo without having to pay a fortune to bypass the restrictions on a non-sub account?

Assuming by "solo" you mean no premade groups, yes (you actually have to go through dungeons with other players to proceed with the story, but all of them are easily doable with randomly matched groups).

Once you have purchased anything on an account you are locked out of the free trial. Your only option to play free would be to make a new account and start from scratch.

There will be times where you will be put into a match made group for things like storyline dungeons, but otherwise I feel like ff14 is the most solo-friendly mmo there is. Not the least of which because its story is worth seeing on its own anyway.

I knew there were a lot of Miquote, but I didn't know there were more active Au Ra than Hyur!

One thing that graph doesn't show is server distribution though. Pretty sure the vast majority of Lalafell are Japanese.

Final Fantasys maps are way too small, it feels bad having to constantly load into new areas

Definitely something they adjust in the expansions but also, the open world content is not a major feature of FF14 so if that's what you want then yeah go elsewhere.

I have a female hyur but probably would have went with an au ra if they had been available for the free trial...!
