I'll just repost what I posted on Facebook

Deadline is tomorrow

How long has this been available? Did yahoo even send an email? I don't pay too much attention to their emails, so I don't even know. It just seems sketchy as hell to put my DOB and other personal info into some random website. How secure is this site anyway?!

I was actually going to make a topic about this. I bookmarked my email a long time ago then completely forgot about it, and happened to see it again yesterday and saw that the deadline is Monday.

That's the exact link Yang retweeted. I'm not familiar with these kinds of things, but I don't imagine he would push some cheap scam.

Ugh...this is so fucking bs.

I got 2 years of free credit monitoring for having my info hacked previously from somewhere else...but it's been like 3-4 years now and supposedly should be over. But I still get the fucking emails from it as if I have it. It's fucking worthless and I stopped paying attention to the vague "alerts" that the emails mention, because every fucking time I bothered to check, it was about something else entirely like a sex offender moving into the area or something.
I have no clue if I still have monitoring or not. Why is it MY JOB to verify all that info when yahoo is the one that fucked up? Just give me the damn pay out, credit monitoring is fucking worthless and my personal info doesn't change in 2 years anyway. I'd rather just take the fucking money. But no, I have to prove I have valid and current monitoring services in order to choose the cash payout! Why does it matter to yahoo, they pay money either way!

Yeah I didn't opt in to that thing, just say you already have one.

Half a day's pay for half an hour's work (if that) is generally a pretty good deal.

So what did you answer for these mandatory questions, then?

"I have some form of credit monitoring or identity protection as of today*

I signed up for credit monitoring or identity protection on this date:*

The name of my credit monitoring or identity protection company is: *

I will keep my credit monitoring or identity protection services active until at least.:*"

Didn't realize there was an easy way to do the credit monitoring thing for free.

I'm kinda torn between, "a free hundred bucks is a free hundred bucks," and this seems like some effort & I'm worried it can compromise my data. Plus technically they deactivated all of my ymails at some point, which --- even though I reopened them -- might hurt my eligibility (and was probably a deliberate move on their part)

I was talking about how small of an amount it was for what could end up happening (or already has happened) to you after their system was hacked five times in five years. So technically its only ~$24, five times. Not really even worth the time to accept that as compensation. Would rather sue individually and try to get more out of it.

Well no one on my Facebook feed did it because apparently no one I know IRL has any faith that I'm not a dumbass posting a scheme.

Or at least no one replied to my post, which made me feel lonely and depressed.

DO NOTHING
If you do nothing, you will not be eligible to receive Credit Monitoring Services, Alternative Compensation, Out-of-Pocket Costs, Paid User Costs, or Small Business Costs. However, if the Settlement becomes final, you will give up your rights to sue Defendants regarding the Data Breaches.
For detailed information about what happens if you do nothing, see FAQ 34.
No deadline
There is, luckily, no deadline to do nothing.

So...did anyone who did it lie about their DOB? I'm not sure why they need to know it and if they use it to verify you somehow.
I prefer to give a fake DOB whenever a website asks for one, cause...why give out PII like that so freely?

Yes they need to verify your identity before sending you money otherwise you could just claim it 50 times

tbh, I *had* meant to seriously look into the thing at the end, but kept getting distracted.
