Board 8 > What is "ResetEra" and why do I keep hearing about it so much?

It looks like a video game forum. Is there something I'm missing that's made it such a hot-button forum?

The video game side is generally okay. Though it has its moments

The non gaming side is very very extremist to the left and certain topics.

It is basically a huge mountain of falling over each other to virtue signal. They love cancel culture and identity politics. They eat their own constantly. It is also ran by moderators that censor their forum pretty strongly and even at times tell their posters what they are allowed to think or post. Tons upon tons of bans.

it's a cesspool and an echo chamber for "elite gamers" who ban anyone that doesn't fit in with their samethink

it's really not that bad but i feel like it's some kind of crossover between this site (a traditional message board) and reddit where you dont have to have the same opinions and personality as everyone else but it's strongly encouraged that you fit in

sexual assault allegations came up on the founder Evilore who took days to respond, in the meantime people started leaving, the site went down for day or a few days I forget... and that pretty well capped off the complete exodus

ERA came up as the reboot, and GAF pretty well bifurcated between itself and ERA, to which GAF is a deadzone that gradually built up into an alt-right hellhole, and the rest migrated to ERA which has become pretty sterile with a severe ban-happy trigger finger

ResetEra is where miserable people go to find problems with things to which there are no problems to make themselves feel better. And where you can't have a contrary opinion without it being silenced.

I know the whole website isn't like that, but enough of it is that I can't imagine wanting to go there.

This is pretty accurate

GAF is worse but ERA is also bad. Board 8 continues to remain the superior message board option

Not even close to accurate.

The owner of NeoGAF was accused of sexual assault. The forum went rampant (because unknowingly the mods who led the exodus to resetera were mass banning people who weren't agreeing with extreme left views) and was imploding. The owner tried to wipe out the offtopic portion of the forum and just keep the gaming side. And the forum imploded more and they formed resetera.

During the meantime, the owner's sexual assault claim was found out to be a false claim by a girl he dated after the claimed assault and she recanted.

However the damage was done by that point.

Resetera took the extreme left parts of the forum and NeoGAF was basically ashes.

NeoGAF has been building up with people who left resetera or got banned from resetera due to its extremeness.

While NeoGAF has far right people on it, it has far left posters plenty as well. NeoGAF is the opposite of ResetERA. Where resetera allows one train of thought, NeoGAF welcomes all trains of thought that aren't directly hateful.

Calling NeoGAF an alt-right forum is laughable and basically just means you got that from resetera who everything is alt right to them that is middle of the spectrum or further right.

could also mention ERAs problems also already existed under the old pre-exodus GAF, but the exodus has certainly ramped those issues up

kinda hilarious in hindsight when ERA started it was somewhat of a mission statement to be more transparent about moderation, and now you get in trouble or threads get locked if you question moderation policies - if it comes up within a topic it's called a derail, if you make a thread about it you're told to PM a mod
