If it's super smash then I'd love to play multiplayer but I haven't bothered with a Nintendo account or giving them money.

I don't like playing the latest and "greatest" games since they flop or need updates or get delayed, so I appreciate that Nintendo has an older/ported library

There are also a bunch of great indie games

Between Hollow Knight of Breath of the Wild I've got 200 hours right there

Smash bros, Pokemon, and Animal Crossing have a large fan base.

Artificial shortages are also a thing.

Cause they are inferior to PCs whereas the Switch has carved out a solid niche

And I hazard that "niche" is its portability. There's a reason the Switch Lite exists. We don't see it much among ourselves on GameFAQs, but there is apparently a large group of consumers out there who are perfectly fine with owning a Switch on an entirely portable basis.

Nintendo sends out less of their products to stores. I remember when I was trying to get a Wii back when that was hot, and the stores were telling me Nintendo sends them like 2 units at a time. Their supply chain guys probably figured it was more profitable for there to be a shortage than for there to be a surplus.

Overproducing is costly. You have to up to set up more infrastructure in your manufacturing centers and hire more workers. In addition, you need more warehouse space for both components and finished products, and it's often not just one warehouse. There's usually tons of distribution centers, and if you want low response time at all stores, you're going to have higher inventory costs at each of these stores. Companies also don't want their money to be tied up in inventory sitting in the warehouse because it's not doing as much for them there as in RD and other avenues.

That's not to say that it's always worse to overproduce. It's just something companies need to balance around.

the nintendo model is that by creating an artificial shortage they make their products more valuable. PS4s were hard to find at launch too mostly because people actually wanted it.

Not at all. The Switch has sold 60 million systems in 3 years. The Xbox One sold 48 million in 7 years, and the PS4 sold 112 million in 7 years.

Switch is easily wrecking the sales charts.

With expensive new versions coming from the other consoles soon, buying one of those now is foolish unless they're being sold at a deep discount.

except nintendo hates price drops. Breath of wild, a launch title that's a port of a wii u title, still $60 new.

https://www.nintendo.com/games/detail/the-legend-of-zelda-breath-of-the-wild-starter-pack-switch/

mario kart 8, another wii u port, $60

https://www.nintendo.com/games/detail/mario-kart-8-deluxe-switch/

Odyssey, $60

https://www.nintendo.com/games/detail/super-mario-odyssey-switch/

pretty much every Nintendo first party doesn't go down in price and anything that isn't a first party is an inferior port that playing on the go might mean enough to look over that fact.
