I have one of those GE surge protectors with the shitty stubby cord and I was thinking of using a single outlet extension cord for a little more reach

I used to with no problem. However, when my Mum got married, my Stepdad (who was an electrician by trade) hit the roof.

Yeah, I heard it's supposed to be a temporary solution

So why then, do they sell fancy braided extension cables then lol

From what I gathered from the fall-out, it works but is nowhere near as safe. Obviously, being an electrician by trade (and he did end up becoming head of H&S at his company, so this might've had something to do with it), he would always go for the safest option.

Yeah I think I'll just mount the power strip to the wall with a strip of velcro or something

I unplug all my power strips during an outage so I'm not worried about that too much, just don't want to overload a single outlet

Yes, and in fact, the cord itself will reduce the amperage a bit.

But basic facts all the magic happens in the surge protector.

Yes, just make sure it's a large enough gauge and isnt going to be stepped on or anything. Also has a ground wire, but this should be standard practice anyway

itll say it on the cord, theyre usually thicker gauge, but its fine, most surge protectors have a 15amp trip, so if anything youll just trip the breaker in the switch, just dont use a super long extension cord that isnt 14/3 cause thats where science and voodoo happen

Hmm

I bought adhesive that can hold up to 15lb so I hope that'll be enough for the power strip

If not then we extensionin'

I mean your electrical outlets are just one long series of extension cables leading back to the power grid. Which is also just one big ass extension cable for the most part.

They don't want you plugging multiplugs into other multiplugs, because then you may plug in too many loads.
But if it's just a single-plug extension cord, as long as the cord can handle the multi-load of the single multiplug, it should be OK.
