Nothing is stopping any given state, county (or parish), or municipality from doing this.
However, there's no constitutional authority for the federal government to do so.

government should have just put a waiver on mortgage/loan payments for 3 months and told banks they'd have to just eat the loss and not backcharge. it's not like new businesses are going to be opening up in the places that shut down and get taken back by the banks.

Most states don't have near the budget to do that and to my understanding they can't borrow money, just request more from the federal government

You don't need the full-on court production to get a judge to issue a stay.

Joe Dunham must think that money grows on trees. Judging by his picture, it looks like he makes a lot of money and lives in a big apartment in the big city, without a care in the world. If the fifty states can't afford it, it's utter fantasy to assume that all fifty can.

The first problem with that statement is that the government doesnt need to suspend rent payments; it needs to cover rent payments.

If the government isnt going to cover rent, then theres no point in giving us $2000. They might as well just give the money directly to the landlords because theyre going to take it anyway.

Telling me I dont have to pay rent for a month isnt helpful because Im going to owe the landlord money. I dont want to owe anyone money and I never had to owe money when I could work.

In fact, why not just average our last three paychecks and give us that much? Thats how much we actually need to get. If $1200/month was enough to get by, I would just work at mcdondalds.

:( we know that scenario. one year in december i had trouble paying rent for just 1 month when things got bad. she was nice enough to say to only pay her half the rent and pay the other half when things got better

she was a nice landlord until she transferred property to a new owner.
