Well it's kinda about the 2002 contest as a whole, but it's mostly about this match.

Whoever you are, good job. I'll be checking out your level design-videos soon too.

Hey, really appreciate you stumbling across it, regardless! Thanks for looking into it, glad that it managed to fight through YouTube's search system to get to you... however it did!

Presently wrapping up a big series on Mike Tyson's Punch-Out as well if anyone's interested or nostalgic, got all the fights up to Mike himself done and should have the last one out on the 30th.

I couldn't stop watching it. It was very well made. I voted in the original Mario/Cloud, but I didn't actually see the final hours of the match, so I had no idea what the actual vote trends were. (Also, I hardly ever visited Board 8 during that time) I thought Cloud had won, but I woke up the next morning to find out that Mario took him out. Interesting to get more details on that.

Great channel, always such great attention to detail and love for the medium oozes in the writing and editing.

Definitely highly suggest the episode on Dan Hibiki. My personal favorite.

It helps that Kamekguy speaks a lot like one of my favorite real-life people (who also loves the medium deeply). Punch-Out!! videos are good, as was the 1-1 and Kaizo videos. Looking forward to Tyson's video soon and will watch Hibiki's later.

Do you ever watch Extra Credits? I really enjoy design break-downs like what you and them are doing.

I was a big fan of them when they first showed up on The Escapist! Didn't agree with everything they said, felt that James was a little TOO deep "in the know" of the industry and that come off as somewhat standoffish at times, and the level of behind-the-scenes politicking for that channel in specifically has more endeared me to their individual projects rather than the channel as a whole (New Frame Plus is a real good one). But, it's definitely the show that made me feel that analysis could really be successful and engrossing as a concept. Plus the whole Extra History series in general was right up my alley.

Whilst I do like the longform video essays that have taken up the "game analysis" monicker (Liam Triforce's one on the music of Sonic is great), I'll admit I prefer having quicker, more easily digestible episodes of about 15-20 minutes.

I agree with most of that assessment...only really watch them for their design videos though and usually felt like those other interests of their was in the way of what I wanted from them. I'll need to look up New Frame Plus though, sounds cool.

James recently left them too, plus now they have a different guy voicing the show instead of Dan...forgot the new guy's name, but I like the replacement.

Figure I'll save making a new topic to post here that the Punch-Out series is finished! Here's a vid on how the game caught onto Tyson Mania in the 80's and elevated it to create not only the greatest boss fight of its era, but define how boss fights should be and feel.

Still a shame it lost to Donkey Kong in '09 so we'll never get Glass Joe in a match pic.
