I honestly can't wrap my head around the hate for this game

Really? I think it's fair to say that it's overblown, but killing off the main character in the series is a purposefully controversial ploy to try to emotionally invest the audience in your narrative. People are going to be understandably upset if the original game meant something to them. And I think it's a cheap foundation for what could ultimately only amount to a melodrama, because it relies on the quality of the original narrative to evoke a response instead of earning one through good writing. You could argue that Joel's story wasn't over and that his actions demanded consequences, but that's a cop out. That story didn't need to continue, and it's more powerful to leave it as is with humanity's fate inconsequential to a man who got away with murder to protect someone he loved. And it's ultimately to serve some trite revenge plot? I think you can appreciate how that might be insulting.

There's also an element of certain people being upset because they replaced the prototypical male lead with modern gender and sexual identity politics. Yes, they're bigots, but in a world where a not insignificant amount of men get upset whenever women in video games are portrayed as more than busty accessories, Naughty Dog replacing the invested masculine player surrogate with a sociopolitical message is purposefully egregious.

My chief issue with Joel's storyline is that it gives a big middle finger to everything that made the ending of the first one great. There was legitimate debate to be had about whether he was justified, what the Fireflies were actually capable of, whether a cure could be made in the first place, and what would happen even if a cure could be made. Now I just get a "No, fuck you and fuck your debate, Joel was a bad, bad man who made an unambiguously wrong decision." It feels like a retcon, and it feels like I'm being told to fuck off because I did think Joel was justified in his actions.

I also just don't like it in general when characters, especially protagonists, come back in a sequel to die. I recognize that that's a personal gripe, though, so I won't go on about it.

It's a good game. A game doesn't deserve to be called "the worst of the generation" unless its a buggy piece of shit with a nonsensical story. People might not like the plot of TLOU 2 but overall the game is very well made

Whats with so many people getting angry that some people dont like the game? Its not like you designed or programmed it, so it doesnt make sense to take this so personally, does it?

Id give the game an 8/10. The Abby section kinda drags but thats about it. The game loses me with its disconnect between the gameplay and cutscenes a bit.

-Ellie kills hundreds of people but has Joel PTSD?

-The PTSD is pretty absent during the adventure for the most part but only shows up abruptly to move the story along.

-When you kill an NPC and the others yell a random name like well care reminds me of a South Park parody episode.

-The daughter of a random NPC coming after you can be used over and over again, the daughter of any NPC we killed in this game might attack us again, resulting in endless TLoU games.

-Owen, Lev, Mel, and Manny were all boring. I didnt care about them at all or what happened to them.

I definitely see the people who dislike the game for various reasons, but theres an unusual amount of people who are flat out furious that some people dislike it.

right now, I dont even have a system that can play the game, so I really dont have an opinion. Its just not common to see fans of a game get so hostile when other people dont like it.

When someone says "leftist propaganda", I assume its just milquetoast liberal stuff that isnt actually offensive unless you're into strangling puppies.

I dunno how to tell you this but there's a lot more blind haters outraging against this games than the people you're talking about. Really dunno how you got your info from. Just go to the TLoU2 board.

Yeah, this game seems to have been hit hard with ludonarrative dissonance. How you feel about the story seems to hinge in it for many people. I know that term of pretentious as fuck, but it's still useful.

Its hard not to give this game an 8/10 at the very least. Its one of the most gorgeous games in history, its acting and animation are superb and, as is customary with Naughty Dog, leagues above just about every other game. The gameplay is not groundbreaking but it is significantly improved from the first game and most people are really enjoying that aspect, even those who hate the narrative.

I didnt necessarily like everywhere they took the story or even the way it was structured, but it wasnt bad storytelling by any means and I found myself being surprised and awed at many moments even having read the leaks before playing the game. The storytelling in the first game was god-tier, though, and its sequel cant compare to that, but in many ways it was at least more ambitious.

The middle of the game definitely dragged on for me though and I wish we had spent more time with Ellie.

It's the same whenever a game is accused of being SJW.

Not by a long shot. Hell it's not even there most disappointing sequel, and I say this as someone who wound up not looking TLoU2.

No, not even close and I really don't like the game's story. It's got amazing graphics and sound design, the acting is on point, and the gameplay... is well pretty much the same as the first game. The story is a mess to say the least, and given that it's a ND game with it up front it's hard not to weigh that more than any other part of the game.

I'd rate it like a 6/10 or something.
