Right now I have a decent 1080p 144hz 1ms monitor. Is there a big enough difference between 1080p and 2k where it would be worth upgrading? A 4k 120hz 1ms monitor is a little out of my budget right now; maybe in a couple years I'll get one.

According to my dad yeah. And in a way its just a stepping stone where you sell your 1080p monitor now, add a little bit of money to get money for the 2k monitor. Then when its time to get the 4K one you do the same.

Rather than making the jump all the way up to .4K money wise

1440p is substantially better, but 4K cleans up aliasing entirely. 1440p is worth getting but 4K does make 1440p's mild aliasing stand out.

Word, that's actually a good idea. I was looking at the 4k monitors i would want, and they're around the $700-$800 mark, which is a bit much.

I'll probably look into some 2k monitors, then!

Interesting... So I'm looking at this 1440p monitor for $300. My GPU is a RTX 2060, so I'm fine there. I have an i5 9600k and 16gigs of DDR4. I'm not sure the MHz, but I know I could upgrade. I never really thought about upgrading my CPU instead. I dunno, I'm kinda happy with what I have now, tho...

And both my 1080p and the 1440p I'm looking at are 24".

Just make sure you have the graphics card to handle it. I have two 4k monitors that I have to scale down because my graphics card is an old 970.

You won't be able to max out settings in 4k with a 2060. Go with the 2k - which is a solid improvement over 1080, imo

I have an old ass graphics card for nowadays (gtx 760), so I'll stick with my 1080p 144hz and playing new things at low settings!
