The problem with that claim is that Randolph Jefferson, Thomas's younger brother who was well-known for socializing with Monticello's slaves, was actually the likely father (although there are at least 35 possible culprits, according to the DNA test and timeline). The accusations regarding Thomas originated from Jefferson's political opponents and everything since then was built on that mudslinging.
