Bush is a war criminal responsible for Abu Ghraib and many other atrocities. Trump is an absolute garbage human being and tyrant but I really think these comparisons are better off left alone.

Bush destabilized the Middle East leading to thousands upon thousands of deaths & further expanded the military industrial complex.

But then again were American and dont really care about the suffering of foreigners half way around the world. And now hes doing finger painting and laughed with Michelle Obama, so cute. I guess he really wasnt all that bad after all.

Trump is a hell of a lot more than a jerk. He takes every opportunity to actively rip apart every foundation our country is built on. Bush got us stuck in the middle of an un-winnable war. But Trump is selling out to the Chinese just to get votes. Nobody thinks Bush is pure evil. Look at the way Michelle Obama and Bush sat next to each other at McCains funeral and joked around. You think anyone is going to do that with Trump?

Bush gets too much hate for the war. Did he screw up? Oh yeah. But that storm was coming no matter who sat in the big chair. Its not like Bush was the only world leader who decided to jump into Iraq. Before COVID-19 Trump was already on his way to exceeding more deficit spending and debt piling in one term than Obama did in two. Never mind his stupid welfare package to farmers for the destruction caused by his tariffs exceeding the price tag of the ridiculous Obama stimulus that was essentially welfare to Wall Street.

Yeah, and, I don't know if it really gives him bonus points or not, but... I really think Bush acted on what he thought was good intel. Did everyone think it was good intel? Did his advisors that fed it to him know it was bad? I have no idea, but I think he acted with what he had the best way he could. And yeah it had sucky results that he's responsible for, but I don't think he just did it for his own reasons like avenging his father or something like the narrative was. Trump just does things because he wants to regardless of the outcome for everyone else.

Bush was a president who had policies I disagreed with and definitely made his share of costly mistakes (Iraq War & Hurricane Katrina response to name two), but I still always got the impression that he was taking actions for what he felt was for the betterment of the country.

Trump uses the presidency for his own personal gain and takes actions that will weaken the country specifically for his own benefit (labeling the media as liars for criticizing him, weakening the COVID response so it doesnt seem like a big deal, deflecting the responsibility from himself to the governors, etc).

Give me 8 more years of Bush over 4 more years of Trump.

for all my grievances about trump domestically, war haunts my conscience unlike anything else - state sanctioned mass murder on my tax dollar

i also have old/childhood friends who are permanently disabled or with spouses that are as a direct result of the wars

I totally appreciate how war is the greater atrocity. And I agree. My counterpoint to the argument at hand though (Bush v Trump) is that Bush was in a position where war was a very viable option on the table. Im not saying it was the right option (taking down the Iraqi regime was very clearly the wrong move), but it was a very viable option in the eyes of many. He had a lot of support for his actions back then.

Regarding attacks on US soil, we thankfully have not had anything close to the magnitude of 9/11 while Trump has been in office. But given everything that Trump has shown up to this point, I feel very secure in my opinion that Trump would have done something equal to or worse than what Bush did.

Additionally, since Im comparing how I believe Trump would have acted in Bushs shoes, given the Bush administrations concerns over potential pandemics, I also 100% believe that he would have handled the COVID pandemic in a much better manner across the board than Trump.

It's sort of hard to compare the two right now but I would say Bush is far more damaging since he was in office for 8 years (how the fuck did that happen)

I just go with Bush personally since the Dot-com bubble and sub prime mortgage crisis really messed up my family

Bush did some shitty things, and you can certainly bring in stats and whatnot to claim he was a worse president, but he never actively, purposefully, gleefully, like a cartoon villain, work to divide the country and make 50% of the population hate the other 50% of the population.
