You guys dont see a problem at all with the premise that if a women from your industry contacts you about a professional conference type thing and hangs out in your company therefore it means you should assume shes wanting you in a romantic/sexual way? That's a whole kettle of fish in itself.

Nah, fuck the inherent power dynamics shit. If the power balance is not being used in an outright manipulative way, it's just an absolute bunk argument. Power can be used to manipulate and dominate someone against their will, but you cannot just claim the existence in itself means anything. That's especially true for someone who is not her boss and has fuck all in power over her.

remember I once kissed a girl after spending like two hours talking with her over coffee. She was smiley and kind of shy, and I remember thinking the date was going really well.

She actually got pretty upset that Id kissed her, because shed never kissed anyone despite being 22 at the time, and argued with me about it for a few days after the fact. Like Id somehow forced myself on her and stolen that moment, when Id merely leaned in and pecked her on the lips as we hugged goodbye.

But what if I was up for some prestigious award and she came out and accused me of grabbing her after an uncomfortable two hours and forcing my lips on hers. She wouldnt technically be wrong if thats what happened from her perspective.

So the question is whether I was predatory for going in for a kiss I thought she wanted, in part, because she didnt stop me. People arguing in bad faith dont think theres even a question. And on the other end, its people who think all women are evil. So theres no arguing in these cases. Youre either fully supportive or youre a monster.

But a libelous public statement demands the conversation, and I honestly think attacking Joes reputation over an incident where no violence occurred is inappropriate. All these events are framed from the perspective of a meek individual in a way that makes them sound like calculated attempts to isolate her. It really just sounds like two socially awkward people learning to navigate boundaries. And judging by Joes response, this might be the first time hes heard this perspective and thought nothing serious had occurred.

Right but what were the power dynamics of the situation? You're in public, you're not meeting under false pretenses, you haven't tried to liquor her up ahead of time, and (unless you left this out) you have no power or prestige over her. I don't think anyone would care about that accusation, even if they believed it was true.

When you are in Joe's position, you KNOW that there's a power dynamic at play. You're using the promise of connections, etc. to get this person in the situation and there are particular actions that I feel like can't just be seen a different way from his viewpoint (trying to keep her away from her phone, trying to cast aspersions on her friend, etc.)

Angry joe was a fucking zero growing up who never got any attention from anyone, especially women.

now that he has some internet clout his fucking ego ballooned and thinks he has the RIGHT to whatever he wants just cause hes got some money and fans.

thats what a megalomaniac does.

now on topic, this isnt a #metoo moment. This is some guy trying way too fucking hard to impress an easily impressionable woman to get with them.

this girl has a BF and the first moment she wound up alone with him in his hotel she should have realized what he wanted and ended it once they were safely in public. She rolled with it for 7 hours before trying to leave.

I think the conversation (in general, not simply this case) is coloured by the sheer, overwhelming problem that has existed for so long with no meaningful change: women get sexually assaulted all the time and almost never have any legal or social recourse for it. If guys think that some metoo stories on twitter is creating an unprecedented situation where someone could lie and ruin another person reputation, they come across a bit ignorant of the reality: even when women tell the truth, historically the only reputation that gets ruined is their own.

So yes, there can conceivably be times that women lie about an experience, or exaggerate, or maybe the consequences seem disproportionate. But it's also hard to take the arguments seriously from people who tirelessly point that stuff out when you know they never once seriously thought about the injustice of sexual assault accusations until men started to be actually called out.

It really does for me draw a lot of parallels with what is happening with BLM right now. Suddenly everyone is in a frenzy to show the good cops, and the times black people were the bad guys, and how white people can be victims too. All true points but brought up only to distract from the original problem that was highlighted.

Im not really talking about a situation where theyre lying or exaggerating, though. Ive had sex with women where I was uncomfortable just because it was easier than saying no. Maybe some of them would think that had been a nice evening. If I was the sort of person who would be traumatized by that, would I be wrong for my perspective? So I think theres a need for real conversations about these incidents. Because sometimes theyre disgusting and damning like in the Avellone situation, and sometimes they seem like an embarrassing misunderstanding that got handled poorly. I dont disagree with what youre saying, though.

I think Joes stance at the time was feeling used because of those connections. I imagine he thought she was interested in him, and then took her fumbling attempts at distraction as admittance that she was only there to advance her career. It was embarrassing, immature, and way out of line, yes, but I dont see how him getting angry is traumatizing enough to publicize an awkward experience.

Letting the lawyers do the relevant fact-finding, laying out all the information, and formulate all the options and pertinent details ahead of time is 100% the smartest thing to do.

There is nothing about hiring a lawyer that implies guilt. It's just the thing you're supposed to do the second anybody accuses you of anything (and especially if they're trying to use that information to get you fired or punished by your job, which this girl is seemingly doing--she said she had "already contacted youtube" and that they've already taken some unspecified action.)

Nope. This is how an innocent man acts...

https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/boards/400-current-events/78794953

Notice how Justin Bieber shut down that shit quick with facts. That's how an innocent man handles these situations. Compare that with Joe's response of, "I'm going to sue you!" Because keep in mind, Joe isn't being accused of a crime. Nobody is saying he raped anyone. It's not like Joe is lawyering up to prevent prosecution. He's lawyering up to win a civil case so he can shut this chick up. At least in theory. I think the truth is there is no lawyer (no lawyer has made any statement and Joe hasn't referred any questions to an attorney.) I think the lawyer stuff is a complete smokescreen because Joe knows he's guilty and there's literally nothing else he can say. This chick has two witnesses going to bat for her and so far no one who was there that day has come rushing to Joe's defense.

Maybe I'm wrong. We'll see.

Just reading it, the story doesn't strike me as outlandish. Here's some cliff notes:

- new steamer meets AJ at a party, messages everybody she met they thanking them
- AJ hits in her over hard over text, she is somewhat socially inept and assume he's just being nice
- she meets AJ with her friend with her, AJ whisks her away from him.
- AJ leads her around all over the place, introducing her to his friends and people. She's intimidated so she doesn't express how uncomfortable she is.
- in this time AJ uses some shitty pick up tactics, like pretending he lost his phone and getting her to call him to find it.
- eventually it becomes obvious he's trying to fuck, especially as he gets more drunk, and at some point her purse with her wallet is "checked"
- AJ eventually realizes she's not interested (she mentions her boyfriend), gets angry and a bit physical, accuses her of leading him on to get contacts in the industry. Starts being an asshole and insulting her friend.
- she gets very purse and gets the fuck out of there after a 7-8 hour ordeal.

edit: some extra details
* AJ kept introducing her as his girl, didn't refer to her by name for a lot of this. Told her to just "go with it."
* When AJ was being a drunk asshole, the streamer was telling AJ that her friend needed help to get into the AirBnB she was he. He was angry and was like "he's probably drunk and will try to rape you, just stick with me." Also doubted that her friend even existed, demanded his twitter handle so he could verify he existed and was at PAX East.

Okay....so he came on to a girl way too hard and when she rejected him he was a dick?

I'm not gonna defend his behavior, if half of that is true he was being an ass. But is making an ass of yourself sexual assault now?

If there were lawyers actually involved then they would have made a statement already or Joe would have directed questions to his attorneys. What Joe most likely did was reach out to his business lawyers who handle his copyright issues and contracts and asked what they could do to quietly shut this down. Joe is looking to bury this, not fight a court case. That's why his statement was tacked on to a news video and not a separate video in itself.
