Yeah I guess so. Im mad at how woeful the CGI is in those films though, grievous and yoda look pretty bad, or maybe theyd look a hell of a lot better if they were released today. They really just look like a Pixar animation in most scenes

I watched the latest Star Wars last weekend so thought Id start from ep 1. In the newest one I remember emperor palpatine

Kinda like reading the end of a book then reading the rest. As others have said release order is better.

So far dont quite see what the fuss is all about with Star Wars.

I mean you started with Episode 9 and fell asleep during Episode 1 so I understand that. I enjoyed Episode 3 Revenge of the Sith but the OG trilogy is where the franchise shines. Empire Strikes Back being my favourite.

You're seeing how Disney took a decent franchise that took a bad turn, and somehow made it worse as if there wasn't any expansive fiction to use. They really messed up the canon of a lot of it.

Not just Disney. I already stated how the chronology doesn't make sense when you factor in Kenobi's age.

Yeah I mean dont get me wrong he looks cool for the 15 seconds that they show him but... I literally dont get it... they dont even try to explain it lol

Bringing back someone from the dead for no reason whatsoever, and whose apprentice is he now since Palpatine has Vader? Or is he now a full Sith lord or whatever.

im gonna watch rogue one, then 4 5 6 then Mandalorian and then the last three. The only ones Ive never seen before are 4 5 6 so maybe they explain it in that one? (But dont tell me lols)

It's so fucking bad.

The worst part is how they have him take off his hood, and then ignite his lightsaber, just in case you don't immediately recognize him. It's such a cheesy scene and isn't going anywhere because Solo 2 is dead.

Aint gonna read the previous posts but if I'm too late oh well aint the end of the world.
Storywise it's best to watch 4, 5, 6, then 1, 2, 3. If you want, Rogue one right after that or after 7, 8, and 9. I know RO came out after 7 but I really dont care about release order in this specific case.

456123 never made sense to me anyways and Im pretty sure throughout my life thats how Ive watched them. Im 29 years old and have only in the last week or so just got a handle on the story and the chronology. I put that down to watching in timeline order not release order

Grievous looked cool when he pulled out the 4 light sabers. Had a bit too much of a frail old man vibe with the constant coughing and hunched back for my liking but the character design is sick

I don't get the coughing. Plus when they introduced him, I thought he was a droid so it made even less sense. He has a lot of hilariously awesome moments, though.

It is a must watch in my opinion. Really feels out between episode 2 and 3 and gives you more of a feel for anakin and obi-wan's relationship. Makes his fall to Vader better as well. Cause anakin was a whiney little bitch in the movies.

But a lot of the shit from the prequels only makes sense after watching the OT, whereas the prequels don't add much to the OT since all of that information is more or less conveyed as is.

Release order is the only way to watch anything ever that has been released. Even the Narnia movies/books...

I mean...its the way it originally came to the people...why would it suddenly be wrong because Lucas had a series of brain farts for over a decade?

But if you really think chronological Star wars is right, enjoy losing the Vader plot twist I guess.

Hmm, I don't recall instances of mass confusion in 1977 or the 80s when people went to theaters for OT. Everyone seemed perfectly fine with it and I heard somewhere that it did pretty well in the box office.

And yeah, okay the Vader "surprise" isn't even that anymore I know this. It's not the best example in that everyone already knows...but assume you didn't. Or rather...assume this is some other work someone wrote that has an equal surprise but you find it out early because you decided to start with their prequels which got released years later and nullify that surprise.

Basically, release order is always as intended for reasons like this. If release order didn't work...it wouldn't have been the released order to begin with. Exceptions exist rarely, but Star Wars just isn't one.

Yeah, the twist is fucking massive and relatively important... although it's also very well-known at this point. The twist puts a lot of Luke's journey into perspective and adds a lot of significance to the work.

This so hard, especially since the PT adds relatively little to the franchise. And some of the prequel stuff makes thing *more* confusing due to retcons.
