So the number of cases are going up but are the # of deaths to cases going up too? If people are getting sick but hospitals are able to keep up with the number of patients it might not be as doom and gloom as we were in March.

We might have to wait to find out. It could be different from March cases because of better treatments, or catching it early enough.

Blood type O less likely to get severe covid-19 We saw this a few topics back

@Cocytus

Posted this cnn link about blood type and coronavirus https://www.cnn.com/2020/06/17/health/coronavirus-genes-blood-type-study/index.html

It is an update
The large international team first published their findings on a non-peer-reviewed preprint server. The report has now been reviewed and published in the widely respected journal.

Fuck yeah, I'm O+

Maybe that sickness that had me out of the office for a week in April really was COVID.

Arizona, Texas, and Florida: never.

Nevada's staying on stage 2 til the end of the month. I'm also guessing the mask issue will be revisited based on the new requirements to wear them at table games.

I don't think there will be any large shutdowns again. They will more than likely be targeted at hot spot areas like that Oregon county.

So California is gonna surpass NJ for second most cases either today or tomorrow. The gap between the two states last I checked a month ago was about 120k for NJ and 56k for CA. Now it 171k for NJ and 167k for CA.

Wonder what happened. I haven't followed CA much I just know last I heard they were praised for shutting down early and that they handled it among the best in US. I guess the media narrative is more on Arizona, Texas, and Florida than what going on in CA right now.

And from what it looks like, it's only in a handful of counties that are spiking, including Los Angeles county. Masks are now mandated for the entire state indoors and sometimes outdoors.

Bingo! Theres this belief that these states more relaxed approach would be doomsday, and that Calis stricter protocol would be more beneficial. Looks like it didnt matter.

One problem though: their cases per 1 million is still very low. Since they have the most people living there in the country other than NY, it would be reasonable to assume they would have a lot of cases. Plus Newsom is actually adapting to the situation unlike the other 3 governors.

Yeah. It does seem media has a bias in where they fear monger though. California having 4k cases should be scarier than Arizona having 3.2k or Texas having 3.5k. But looks like it more politically based where they choose to fear monger.

As I mentioned before im from NY and saw first hand some of it. I remember one day my state had 9k cases 800+ deaths in April and saw people freaking out that a GOP state had a record 200 cases with like under 20 deaths. Glad those days are behind us. I can't imagine if another state had to go through 800+ corona deaths daily.

No its not. You miss the context. California can handle the increase in cases because they did the prep work. And again their cases per 1 million is still low.

Idk it just weird seeing politics used when presenting news or alluded to all the time. Gets boring but I get that is the way things are. The fortunate thing is the deaths are low. They aren't hitting 150 daily in these areas. Or having talks of mass graves like I saw in NY and I think NJ.

Not sure about the population-adjusted numbers for the recent spikes (at a quick glance, Florida's are probably higher), but Texas and Florida do have fewer total cases per million overall.

That could be because either better treatments or thru re finding more mild/asymptomatic people. As for those 3 states, I had thought of it as political. I thought of it as 3 governors who fail to do their homework and adapt to the situation.

Yeah. Their president asked people to storm hospitals and start filming inside since he thought the numbers were fake. If I had to guess maybe the hospitals moved the patients in a safety measure.

Yea. I just learned that Brazil doesn't have a consistent standard for what it means to have "recovered" from corona. I'm hearing recovered in many parts over there means an infected person that isn't dead or hospitalized. If true that explains the 1 million cases and 500k recovered in such a short period. The more I hear about the way they handling this the more they exceed my expectations of how fucked they are. I agree 5k deaths a day possible as well as them overtaking US in 6 weeks.
