Board 8 > Whew, finally finished P5 Royal (spoilerish)

That took a looooooong time. Probably won't be playing another JRPG for quite a while. None of them can compete with Persona 5's pure sense of style anyway.

I do just have a couple complaints though:

1. Best girl Kasumi takes way too long to officially join, and it leaves too little time for her romance. Although even with that limited time she's still way better than the original cast of girls don't at me
2. Joker really didn't need to be a silent protagonist. The only time decisions matter are in the confidant convos and he could still be silent in those, but otherwise some fully voiced lines would have been more entertaining than the illusion of choices. He's pretty much a fully formed character as it is, seems weird that he doesn't get to speak up.

Actually wanna shower some praise here as well, bc the addition of Dr Maruki was genius. He's a fascinating character and gave the game some incredible moral complexity. To the point where I don't think I would have had the willpower myself to resist his offer.

So what's in store for me in NG+ cuz I heard you get to fight the twins for real that sounds cool

You could do that in the original. What's new to Royal is fighting Lavenza. You'll also be able to have Jose upgrade your Crystal from the final palace into a ring, since you can't do that outside NG+

You can fight the twins fairly early, at least in the original.

Yeah, pretty sure the twins can be fought any time you go to mementos aside from the first time you go, 12/23, and any time after 12/23.

As for Lavenza you need to secure the route to the final treasure before she'll take you on.

And I forgot to beat the Reaper for that sweet trophy. Chose Merciless for NG+ since I have some powerful pokemonas on my team so let's see how much of a threat he is

He didn't seem too hard to me on my Hard playthrough, but Merciless should be a little more tough since the benefit you get from Merciless wouldn't apply to him anyway

Weaknesses are 2x damage or something like that, but that goes both ways. So it's easier to one shot enemies if you know their weaknesses. Of course, Reaper doesn't have any

That is his complaint. He most certainly is a silent protagonist, because he is silent. The issue is that since they gave him so much of a personality anyway, the "charm" of a silent protagonist is gone, and they might as well have just given him lines at that point

Yeah this exactly. He even has a cool voice the few times he does speak! Shame he didn't get more of an active role.

the biggest problem with royal is that the developers failed, yet again, to properly implement Haru so she doesn't feel tacked on

she appears very briefly in like two throwaway scenes. really, they should've completely re-done her social link so that it worked like kasumi's. You can level her up to 5 or 6 and then once she joins you can finish the link.

another issue is that the game is just WAY too easy now on normal while hard has one or two extremely cheap fights that kind of ruin it.

other than that royal is generally much better of an "expanded edition" than golden was. maruki, kasumi, and neo akechi are all pretty good.

The change to Ryuji's instant battle victory skill basically makes the entire game a cakewalk.

Eh there are enough gameplay improvements to warrant another playthrough I think. I definitely have more fun with Royal's battle system.

Using a level 99 Lucifer in the first palace is more than overkill. Hit one mook for over 11000 damage lmao

Satanael is NG+ exclusive and not DLC, same as he was in Vanilla.

Thats what I figured but I never beat vanilla. Only got up to Shido.

So no other new personas to obtain without dlc then? Darn. Maybe one day they'll add worthwhile dlc like extra time with Kasumi and Akechi.

Royal added several new personas (everything that appeared in the new palace, for example) and gave all of the vanilla DLC for free.

Maruki gave you the final fantasy tactics advance dilemma of maybe you're the asshole because everyone else is better off even though you know its wrong

For me the main difference between Maruki and FFTA was that in this game, Maruki was the God of the world and had ultimate control over the events that would happen which could very well lead to some dystopian shit real quick potentially, giving someone that much power just doesn't seem right. Whereas in FFTA they all just ended up in a world where everything just happened to be better, and they all had the ability to influence their own futures for the better and they had that taken away from them by some douchebag. That's less cool

Sucked may be sightly strong (She was actively mediocre to the point that it was really easy to just sort of forget she was actually there despite how often she was shoved in your face imo), but you're basically correct.
