How can a card be racist? Cards are inanimate objects and are therefore incapable of any type of hatred, let alone racism. How illogical.

A 1/1 first strike for B isn't really great anyway, nobody will miss it, and I think there's three or four renames of it anyway.

I got me one of those.

Is it safe to assume that the other color kingdoms(I don't know what else to call it, not a fan of the series) of MTG have similar style cards?

That said, the artwork on the second one is pretty bad.

I can see the art on invoke prejudice resembling kkk hoods and fire, but whats with cleanse? Sure it says destroy all black creatures, but are we really so far gone that we cant use the word black to describe anything anymore? Black in this context is just a color on the border of the cards.

It's just Hasbro echoing the platitude.

Invoke Prejudice is an utterly absurd dogpile of fuckery, but the rest just got caught up in it.

to those who aren't into Magic, keep in mind all of these cards are 25+ years old. most are buried in people's collections, rarely seeing the light of day, let alone a game.

MTG stopped using real life references a long time ago.

wtf. all black creatures is racist? lol. good god, im all for BLM but this is absurd. do people realize there are species of animals that are in fact all black? ravens, crows, certain species of snakes, theres even all black chickens.

next the word black will be banned. we'll have to call anything that was once black hard gray or something ridiculous.

Cleaning isn't overt, but it's a very weak metagame-dependent card that we should let go just because it probably really is grossly uncomfortable now

You're getting upset when in reality nobody asked(or expected) them to do this, and it really causes no harm.

Invoke Prejudice isn't even the most obnoxious card from the Legends set.



I'm ecstatic as hell that I bought four of these when they were still $40.

As a black male who has played MTG before I don't really see anything wrong with cleanse, like I could understand people getting uncomfortable about it but only if they've never heard of the game. Invoke Prejudice is just bad though. I do find the effect interesting but the artwork ruins it for sure.

Original white mana symbol or GTFO.

Crusade has some EDH use, but other than that I don't think any of these were used outside of casual and EDH doesn't usually care about what Wizards says or does anyway (allowing proxies, custom banlist, etc.).

If Crusade is banned, does that mean they will ban Crusaders too on their next pass? Mirran Crusader is a relevant card in at least two formats. Or was Crusade only banned because it has a (presumably Christian) cross on it?

Those cards are still around (well not Balance, I don't think anyone plays that in Vintage and it's banned in Legacy/EDH). So far these bans are only affecting eternal formats.

Ravages of War needs a standard reprint

Some of these bans are questionable, but Invoke Prejudice makes some sense. Still, banning cards because of their names or art, rather than being overpowered or meta-breaking, is a deep rabbit hole to go down. I wonder if they'll end up banning Reparations?

JFC, this ridiculous cancel culture. I've never been happier to have quit years ago before this shit started.

That said, "Invoke Prejudice" was a poorly-named card that understandably didn't age well. Trying to retroactively erase the fact it existed is just silly. And there are *countless* cards that won't stand up to the scrutiny of outrage police who don't play the game, never will, and look down on everybody who ever has.

Yeah, cleanse is honestly looking unintentional, but it's also practically unplayable anyway so no big loss.

It's something you'd sideboard against a black deck. And within the game, white and black have always been opposing colors so white cards destroying black cards and black cards destroying white has come with the territory.

If we're going to go down the rabbit hole of attributing every usage of black and white to skin color, then that's going to be a long ass fall.

Might as well just get rid of the two colors at that point and go from a color wheel to a color triangle.... which might be a neat idea.

WOTC missed the chance to reprint Mana Drain in purple, and I've never forgiven that.
