As far as I know, the purple emperor isn't special and has all the same spawn properties as the agrias and Madagascan.

I think this update changed where bell trees can spawn. For the longest time my glowing spots have only been in the same few locations, and i assumed it was because my furniture and flower placements were limiting them to only be available in those few spots. But now since 1.4 I've been getting glowing spots in new places.

Yup, before the update, there was only 1 space it could've spawned in the middle of a dirt 3x3 block, now it's spawning in any dirt space.
