The handheld that needed like 6 batteries and shit. That must have sucked back in the day. I never had one.

Makes sense to me.
Nintendo releases a NES mini for a reasonable price and cannot keep up with demand. They release a SNES mini for a reasonable price and cannot keep up with demand. Sony releases a PS1 mini for an absurd price and it sells underwhelmingly. So naturally SEGA is going to conclude that they are a million times better than the other two (lol who would ever play a PS1 game) and capable of pulling it off at twice the aforementioned absurd price point. If they put all 16 games on one system and made said system about the size of an actual Gamegear, and still have it at 50$ then this might have actually been cool.
