Maybe its because of Gwynevere. But shes just ONE small(or huge, depending how you look at it) part of the entire zone/area.

I know Im in the minority when I say this but Dark Souls 1 was kinda meh to me.

I generally liked Anor Londo, expect for the part where it's a pseudo-point of no return and you can't leave until you've beaten O&S. But then points of no return usually bother me unless there's a clearly justifiable reason for me to not be able to go back (like the continent exploded) and a reasonable amount of foreshadowing.

What about near that painting that you can go into? And those rafters or whatever with the ninja-like bad guys that can knock you off?

It has one of the hardest non-boss encounters in the game and one of the hardest bosses too and in general a very memorable part of the game.

Mostly because back in the original Dork Zoles there were a pair of archers that had homing arrows and ohko'd you and it was annoying and hilarious

The foreshadowing is all the distance you covered, like going in to blighttown. You can go back whenever you want but you should remember how much you've covered.

I'd say it's memorable because you go from fecked and delapidated world to the most pristine mega-palace complete with knights.

Not really. Approaching the ring on top of Sen's Fortress to be transported there, there's really nothing to indicate that you won't be able to come back until you unlock the magical teleporting power that you'll get after O&S (also not indicated). That said, looking it up to remind myself of what exactly it is that you interact with to be taken there, the wiki's saying that you can go back by talking to the demon perched near where you land, so maybe it's not actually a PonR and I just need to pay more attention.

Anal Rodeo is just cool. It's pretty much the only area of the game that isn't a ruined mess.

it isn't. those pink lightning monsters will fly you back to Sen's fortress whenever you want. there are also shortcuts in Sen's that can make coming back up a lot faster.
