So what is your take on this, Jakyl? Many here decried the protests and tried to attribute every little bump in cases to the open up protests (even if times, locations, and guidelines used by protesters were socially distant or not).

Are these also idiots who are killing people by spreading a virus as well or...? What's your take?

You know that will never happen. What drives people to seek power is not justice, it is power. And power can never be equal, because the essence of power is that it is power over someone else. The state is power, the only thing a revolution changes is who wields it. There will always be those who seek power, and they will always have greater power than those who do not seek it.

That is why communism has always failed. Lenin truly believed I think. He declared unilateral peace with Germany. Germany just moved their army forward and kept shooting.

practical should absolutely override ideological. like the usual "if not now, when?" type of argument has a clear answer: not in a pandemic. the greater evil is the one that's going to cause more harm to you and that's going to be the pandemic here, whether it's in personal health, deaths, or economic.

I suppose it's shared blame but still overwhelmingly on the state in any situation for not providing adequate healthcare, leadership, and response.

I may personally have less empathy for people protesting for causes I don't agree with but that part is consistent. The anti-lockdown protestors are an egregious case because they are specifically saying the government should protect the citizens less and that's a fundamental disagreement about the entire scenario.

You're being reductive when you characterize posters in this topic as "just cheering on violence" while omitting the broader context of what's going on and why people are doing so. I also think the word "just" is doing some work here because not only does it make the statement reductive, it makes it exclusive - as in you're stating people here are cheering on violence for violence's sake.

Again, keep in mind that were I a mod and the one looking at that post I would not have moderated it. Given the posts that tend to be allowed to fly (which isn't precedent setting, I know) that doesn't rise to what the standards for modding seem to be here IMO. And I say this as someone who thinks moderation needs to be seriously tightened up on this site - but the truth is it isn't and that does feel like a weak moderation.
