The owner didn't give anybody any notice whatsoever that he was even thinking about it, let alone giving anyone a chance to make an offer for the business. Andrea, the manager, is pretty furious. I believe corporate takes over in like 2 weeks.

I now have to apply for the job I've been doing for over 3 years. We are not being given any priority over any of the other random applicants, which means there's a very good chance none of us will be kept on since we've all earned several raises in our time here and corporate will be able to replace us all with new people at minimum wage.

I always knew the owner was incompetent. I never considered him to be a scummy backstabbing piece of shit before, though. Especially given how he absolutely refused to fire anybody for any reason because they'd been employed for a while and he claimed "they're family now, and family looks out for each other." And yes, that is a direct quote that I have heard come out of his mouth.

Fuck him. And fuck corporate. I'm putting in an application because the job is easy and has its perks, but I'm also gonna start looking for a better one. This just really sucks because for the first time in my life I've had some semblance of stability and been able to start properly saving up an emergency fund. I'm gonna have to keep a very close eye on myself for a while, 'cause I'm pretty nervous that this might end up being a big trigger for my depression to come back strong. I've done so well to keep it in check for a while now, and I don't want to lose that progress. :-/

Wow, that sucks. I'd demolish the place tbh at that point, just say fuck everything and everyone. Give those corporate shits a pile of rubble to come home to.

I mean, I'm not going to commit arson just because the owner turned out to be a prick.

But if I do get rejected, you can bet your ass I'll be spending the next 2 weeks letting all of my regulars know exactly what's going down and recommending they find a new store to go to. I'm sure the corporate ownership won't even notice. It'll just be a drop in the bucket for them. But it'll make me feel better, so that's something.

i faced this issue with an apartment. but with a landlord change.
he jacked my rent up 300$.

there was nowhere else to move since i had a large breed dog (it's a needle in a haystack to find places that rent to large breed dogs).
better luck with a cat or a small toy dog.

edit: if they lay you off. you'll still qualify for unemployment.

... I mean... if the guy owns his business he has every right to get out how he sees fit.

I'm not saying it doesn't screw you over or he couldn't have done it in a better way for you personally, but considering it sounds like he took decent care of you financially speaking, don't be too pissed at someone taking retirement.
