Only time I thought they were assholes were when they gave me a ticket for going 80 in the carpool lane when I was going with traffic sandwiched in a bunch of cars. My buddy was in the passenger seat wearing a black hoody, seat fully reclined. The car had an all black interior and exterior. They probably thought they could get me on a illegal carpool ticket.

shes a privileged suburban upper middle class girl. of course her opinions are shit.

she even said its typically only minorities who have trouble with police. everyone normal likes them and is grateful for their service.

I wish I was kidding but she actually said that which made me facepalm

2013, was just getting out of picking up my girlfriend in college, and took her to the bank across campus in my car so she could pick up cash.

Long story short, there's a small traffic jam right in front of the bank's small street, so I decide to drop her in front. Moving slowly as soon as we're around the corner she hops out and walks the remaining distance.

As she enters I hear a soft knockknock on my door, it's the police claiming that I had illegally parked in the street, and since she opened the door before I stopped the engine wanted to run me with a 400 dollar gift card.

(Didn't pay it btw). My uncle was high ranking in forensics for decades, made it all go away.

I've had bad experiences with the police. Not typical though. It's not that they are bad people or anythiing. Some are overly nice and some are overly snippy. Just set in their ways. They are all different. some of them have a tough job etc, etc. As far as what is actually going on and having to explain that to people that aren't helping like they think they are can be really bad.

They do treat people differently depending on who you are too. But even still. I'm not explaining in detail because what happened is just that messed up. I've already done that the best I could under impossible circumstances and really shouldn't have even had to do that. They still don't get it. It's not really the police's fault. Although they didn't exactly do what they should have done either.

This is not a defense of police (nor an attack either) but the only interactions I had with police were either fair or pleasant. The fair ones I got busted for things that I totally was guilty for. Illegal parking, speeding, etc.

The pleasant ones are the ones where the cop let me off with a warning. One time I was caught doing multiple offenses, and he still let me off.

No, I'm not white. I'm about as dark as a black person. I'm not denying that there is clear injustice going on against black people. I just want to put this out there just in case anyone starts calling me white.

Mostly with border patrol.

But a couple years back this cop pulled me over on Thanksgiving, started yelling and shit, asked me to get out of the car at which point I asked him to explain himself where he literally said "that's how we do things around here", but I sized him up and decided to get out, he asked if I had a record or whatever and I said no, he said "yeah we'll see about that" and looked me up, then told me I could go. Don't know that the fuck the guy's problem was.

Other than that I was being pulled over a lot "randomly" at one point but I talked to a judge to get hat to stop.

interesting. How did that work @P4wn4g3 ?

I have issues saying what happened isn't the police's fault either. It's a lot of people's fault. i ended up with a lot of bs that isn't even the truth and wasn't even necessary at all. People "trying" to help or not. Were they? I don't know.

The police in general are subject to politics and everything else themselves. I don't know if cops are always the ones spewing it.

My wife got pulled over once while I was in the passenger seat. She's black, I'm white. She was going 37 in a 35. Officer came up and was immediately aggressive, asking what the hurry was in a condescending tone, asked for her registration and told her what the form looked like as if she was too stupid to know what a vehicle registration is. Then he saw me in the passenger seat (it was dark so it took a minute) and his tone changed completely.

We got let off with a warning.

also had two of them basically try to corner me using their cars because i fit the description for a guy who assaulted somebody at a bar nearby. they also left me alone after asking me some questions about what i was doing earlier in the night.

One officer gave me a ticket for refusing to yield to him, which was kind of BS since he didn't give me much time, and there were lights and sirens in front of me so I didn't see him right away. Dude was huffy and mad, I'm just like whatever, have a nice day.

I got pulled over for speeding (55 in a 50) while going DOWN a MOUNTAIN to see my family on a college break. Fall break I think it was. I had just bought the car a week prior and the temp tag was still on it but not expired ofc. So, as you can imagine, I have no idea why I'm being stopped.

Dude tells me it was sucpicious I was "speeding" with a temporary tag on thr car. Bruh you gotta be shittin' me. So he writes me a $250 speeding ticket.

I go to the DA's office to dispute it a week later and the DA rips it up in front of me and tells me "yeah that cop is an asshole but they're impossible to fire".

Apparently he loves pulling over college kids coming down the mountain and ticketing them because a lot of the time they can't get back to the DA's office to dispute them so they're just paid. At the time I was minoring in criminal justice so I was ready to contest the FUCK out of that ticket.

Edit:
I also got pulled over on my birthday on campus for an expired registration but that was legit my bad. Officer gave me a warning and the address of an inspection station closeby.

Yup. They searched my car for no reason.

I was a junior in high school. I was driving with my gf and we parked off a side street to make out a little. I dropped her home. Someone called the cops on us. When I got to my driveway, cops were waiting for me. I told them the truth. Even had them call my gf to back my story. They still were skeptical for whatever reason. They searched my car (after I stupidly gave them permission). They didn't find shit, but I felt violated after.

but in reality Hispanic is half white (half white, half indigenous American). So that would make you 3/4 white? Its fascinating lol.

Two I can think of, but they're kinda weird.

First one is pretty much a nonissue. An officer followed me for maybe a quarter of a mile and parked behind me in a parking lot, then asked to see my ID. I showed him, he said thanks and started to head back to his car. I ask him if there's something on, and he says "we're looking for someone." I guess the someone drives a car that's similar to mine. But whatever, I just continued on.

Second one, I would call a bad experience but in an unusual way. I was definitely speeding, blue lights flash, I pull over immediately, cop shouts at me, "Not even gonna slow down when I blue light you going 50 in a 35 zone." I dunno what his deal was, maybe he was having a bad day or on a power trip or something, but anyway, I show him my license and insurance and he walks off to the car, and comes back a few minutes later. "Mr. DevsBro, are you related to the DevsBros who live over here on Streetroad lane?"

"Yes sir."

"And is that what you're doing over here? Visiting them?"

"Yes sir."

"You gonna slow down?"

"Yes sir."

He writes me a warning.

Obviously I'm happy about not getting the ticket but I hate that it implies this guy shows favoritism because he knows people's families.

Has anyone here legit had a good experience with police?

Definitely, tons. But that's off topic. >_>

Main bad one I can think of is once my wife and I got pulled over (I think I was driving) because there was like... a translucent plastic plate that was slightly tinted red over her license plate. I'm not sure why it was there. It was there when we first met, I never thought to ask my wife why it was there and get rid of it. We didn't get a ticket or anything but he made me take it off the car, and of course over the years it had been there one of us had driven the car with cops directly behind us many, many times and none of them cared at all. We were driving out of town and going through some tiny little town where nothing ever happens presumably so the cop was probably just looking for something to do.

Another time more recently I wasn't around but my wife was in a very minor accident when someone tapped her bumper at a stop light, and it wasn't a big deal or anything, like there was no real damage so it didn't matter, but a cop showed up and just refused to do anything useful. The other driver had no proof of insurance and the cop just didn't care, lol. I guess since there was no damage it shouldn't bother me--he likely would've done more if there HAD been damage, but it was kind of annoying.

Other than that they have been kind of unhelpful when we've called them over a few thefts and stuff, like they never bothered to come out and do anything about it--but again, it was never anything too major so not like they would've really been able to do anything.

We have used off duty or retired officers for security where I've worked the last 20+ years, and they have always been pretty cool.

What were you doing? I've only been put in the back of a cop car at 16 or 17, so I figured it didn't count since they treated me like a minor. But now that I think about it, they stop treating some races as minors at like 14. The knife in your pants thing is crazy. Especially when you hear about how they threw that one guy in prison for forgetting to take his phone and him thinking it was on purpose.

Yes. I was out walking on the city trail one night. It was pretty late (probably about 10 or 11). I saw what looked like headlights coming behind me and realized that a car had literally driven up the trail and after me. It was a cop who got out with a fucking shotgun. Not a pistol, a massive fucking shotgun which definitely had a wider barrel than any 12 gauge Ive ever seen.

He made me get down on my face in the snow and cuffed me and all that bullshit. Then he started asking me a bunch of stuff until someone told him on the radio that the suspect was in custody. Then he let me go with some halfassed apology. To his credit, he did offer to drive me home, but I walked back. That scared the shit out of me. At one point he actually put the shotgun on the ground, where anyone could have gone for it, and switched to his pistol. Fun times. I dont walk after dark now.

I've never had a direct interaction with cops but I was a passenger when one of my friends go pulled over by a dickhead cop.

We were pulled over for speeding (she was doing around 90 in an 80). The officer immediately began berating her claiming she was doing 140. Right off the bat this was BS because going 50 or more over the speed limit is "stunt driving" in Ontario which is an arrestable offense, not something where a cop just yells at you. After she provided her license he then gave her a hard time about her picture claiming it wasn't her since she had blonde hair with no glasses in her photo but brown hair and was wearing her glasses at the time.

She kept her cool though and stayed respectful and didn't give him anything to use against her, she just took her glasses off and informed the cop that she frequently dyes her hair. So then he decided to claim that her license plate cover is illegal. You know those plastic covers that dealers put around your license plate with the dealers name on it for free advertising if you don't take it off? One of those. She calmly asked why the dealers put them on if they're illegal and when the cop didn't have an answer she said that she would remove it as soon as she got home anyway. The cop, realizing that we were not going to say or do anything to escalate the situation finally just told us to go and stormed back to his car in a huff like a toddler throwing a tantrum.

I know in terms of negative police interactions this was ultimately tame. He never ordered us out of the car, nor were any weapons drawn and he didn't even give her a ticket for the 10 over the limit she was doing (although that might be because he opened the interaction with a completely ludicrous claim that she was going 60 over the limit). But this situation also could have been much handled much better with the cop simply informing my friend that she was going 10 over the limit and giving her a warning or a ticket and calling it a day. It was so blatantly obvious that this guy was trying to be a "big man", looking for trouble and trying to create an incident so he could swing his dick around and assert authority which unfortunately seems to be the mentality of many cops.
