I think he meant 'exact same day republicans got caught in a voter fraud scheme'

As the task force investigated, they confirmed that five ballot requests that had been altered from "Democrat" to Republican."
The complaint against Cooper says he changed an underline that several voters had placed under "Democrat" to a circle around "Republican."

ngl though it would rock if the republicans actually enforced antitrust laws against big social media companies over this dumb grievance politics. so many people get their news from facebook, and they unilaterally decide what's 'fake' and what isn't. not good!

During his guilty plea hearing, [Domenick J.] DeMuro admitted that an unnamed political consultant gave DeMuro directions and paid him money to illegally add votes for certain Democratic candidates, the Department of Justice said in a statement. These candidates were individuals running for judicial office whose campaigns had hired the consultant, as well as other candidates for various federal, state, and local elective offices who were preferred by this consultant for a variety of reasons.
After receiving payments ranging from between $300 and $5,000 per election from the consultant, DeMuro would add fraudulent votes on the voting machines, also known as ringing up votes, for the consultants clients and preferred candidates thereby diluting and distorting the ballots that were cast by actual voters,

I'll just ask this. Does anyone think that Twitter would bother adding a fact checker to a prominent democrat's tweet because I highly doubt it. That's the issue here. Do you believe big tech companies should have the power to sway elections especially when they have expressed interest in doing just that?

only if they were too far left to be mainstream. much like facebook's 'fake news' feature, this will be co-opted by centrist fact-checkers at old media institutions to discredit anybody who disagrees with their world view, on the left or on the right.

for a recent example: https://medium.com/@fightfortheftr/facebook-told-my-followers-i-was-spreading-misinformation-about-government-surveillance-i-wasnt-63622dd7ae56

usa today claims its false to say that senators voted to allow warrantlless access to your browsing history, because 'actually they voted against stopping it'. facebook regurgitates that to everyone as if it is now incontrovertible fact

I overheard Rush talking this morning about "how it's time to regulate the social media platforms!" Oh those bastard commies over at Twitter, how DARE they run and operate and maintain their own platform and ask users to agree to a set of rules that Twitter sets for you to use Twitter's platform!

Hopefully. I'd like to see them add a fact checker to any prominent figure who could influence large groups of people.

I don't think they should any more power to sway elections than they already have... social media already has so much market saturation - so many eyeballs already locked in and consuming - and the interactive nature of it makes it more persuasive than television and radio imho. SM inherently has power to sway public opinion just in being a platform for people to broadcast their agendas. While I think it should end with being a mere platform for people, I'm not against there being an independent, non-biased agency attached to the platform to act as a fact checker for all influential voices that have a broad audience.

Oh, and just to clarify, I don't actually disagree with regulating social media. I think Twitter and Facebook and all the rest need to ask you to use your data and how they're going to use it. And also don't fucking post your kids photos on Facebook, good God people, think.

And, really, there's is nothing wrong with Twitter saying Donald Trump is a liar. If he gets triggered about it big fucking whoop who cares.

Wut. Executive orders are used to tell the federal government "pretty please do this thing for me.". Trump can't use an executive order to get Twitter to do anything...

I agree with all that. I'm against the government getting their dirty paws in social media and trying to regulate and control it but these platforms absolutely do have the power to control public discourse on an unprecedented level. Having a relatively unbiased fact checker for all prominent public figures would be a responsible addition that wouldnt involve any real government intervention. It would also be a step toward hopefully instilling a little more public trust in their ability to be politically neutral

Literally the same filter is applied to everyone

They probably have him on a "do not ban automatically" list and forgot to add an exception for their new fact checking system.

He's the one constantly bitching about "fake news" and when they finally do something about it and it turns on him suddenly they're authoritarian.
