Hopefully. I'd like to see them add a fact checker to any prominent figure who could influence large groups of people.

I don't think they should any more power to sway elections than they already have... social media already has so much market saturation - so many eyeballs already locked in and consuming - and the interactive nature of it makes it more persuasive than television and radio imho. SM inherently has power to sway public opinion just in being a platform for people to broadcast their agendas. While I think it should end with being a mere platform for people, I'm not against there being an independent, non-biased agency attached to the platform to act as a fact checker for all influential voices that have a broad audience.
I agree with all that. I'm against the government getting their dirty paws in social media and trying to regulate and control it but these platforms absolutely do have the power to control public discourse on an unprecedented level. Having a relatively unbiased fact checker for all prominent public figures would be a responsible addition that wouldnt involve any real government intervention. It would also be a step toward hopefully instilling a little more public trust in their ability to be politically neutral
