Avoiding becoming the salty cop helps. Each year Ive worked in a different station on a different area and it keeps it fresh. The people I work with are all younger and its completely different than working with the older generation of cops. A lot of them quit or retired when body cams were mandated in 2015. As well as a lot of new school rules they just dont like Being patrol is fun, you get the whole area and just roam doing whatever you want, going wherever you want. Complete freedom. There are days where youre slammed with people calling the police. Start to finish going call to call on domestics in the suburbs. Or shootings in the hood where one call takes your entire day. id do it again. Cant beat the time off either. I got 200 vacation hours still and took off like 3 weeks off already.
