Happened to catch the show on television in the background while I was grading papers. I caught a joke that amused me so I tuned in. It was surprisingly a good episode. Then I realize it is heavily serialized (can't remember how serialized the original was), so I go to binge watch it and I'm pleasantly surprised to its quality.

  • Intro theme cover is pretty good, I'd say equal in quality to original
  • I love that Donald plays a bigger role in this show
  • I thought I'd hate the addition of Weby, but I thought she was implemented well and added another dimension to the team
  • Character development in the show is pretty good and it builds past individual episodes (something that bugs me about American cartoons is that character development that happens in one episode is usually gone by the next)
  • Cameos and guest appearances are implemented well into the show (I particularly liked how they implemented Darkwing Duck, the Three Caballeros, Chip and Dale, and Goofy.
  • There are some fun episode gimmicks that go very meta with their humor, similar to shows like Community or Supernatural
  • Interesting amount of pathos in some of those overarching plotlines

If you enjoyed the original Ducktales, I'd suggest you give it a try.

HOWEVER, if you watch it on Disney+, just know that the first season is out of order and you will be spoiled if you watch it in the order provided. I used an online guide for correct episode order.

Thanks for the heads up. They seem to have the same problem with Simpsons.

I quite liked the clever use of the Moon Theme from the video game.

Its alright. I watched the first few episodes. The only thing I didnt like was Webby being good at everything relevant to the show (Oh no, Im bad at social situations in a show where every character is my friend by default and Im otherwise invincible. Woe is me.)

Thanks for saving the me the trouble of making my own thread about this. Have only seen maybe ten random eps in total across the two seasons, but everything is top-notch: characters, humor, and occasional emotional moments.

I think my favorite line so far is when Ghost Duckworth disappears into the floor and Mrs. Beakley comments 'not very reassuring that he went down instead of up.'

I havent watched it, but I like the art style a lot, and I liked the original show as a kid.

Unfortunately, it doesn't look like the Rescue Rangers will be showing up much in future, as the crew could only clear the minor usage of the characters from the higher ups after some difficulty. It seems they are trying to think of something to do with the property at a later point, and don't want to tie it up with this cartoon.

It looks like there will be a healthy dose of TaleSpin crossovers, though. We already have Don Karnage as a recurring character, and art of Kit Cloudkicker and Molly [insert last name here I forgot it] as adults has surfaced at one of those conventions. Goofy, Max and co. are pretty much 'canon', even if they don't pop up much, and Darkwing Duck stuff is already well integrated into the story of the show - also, art of a reimagined Gosalyn popped up on that big promo poster from a couple of years back. If you like remembering when you were between the ages of 8 and 12, you're probably going to be vibing to this show for a while.

That recent AstroBoy inspired episode was great.

That sucks about the Rescue Rangers. But oh well, they are incorporating enough properties, as you mentioned, that it's okay. I'm surprised we've gotten as many crossovers as we have. I also read somewhere that Daisy will be making an appearance. That should be fun for a Donald plotline.

Personally, I thought she was introduced well. Her social issues have caused enough problems in the show just as all the boys' "weaknesses" have caused problems in the show.

I don't really see where you are going with her being seen as "invincible" as all the boys are shown to be that way as well. A good example is the episode with Bigfoot. Bigfoot was trolling Louie back and forth and I honestly thought it would go the cliche route where nobody would believe Louie until Bigfoot messed up and finally vindicated Louie through no action of his own. But instead, he devises a plan that works perfectly where Big Foot's true identity is never discovered but he is still able to beat him and make a mockery of him throughout.

It seems the kids rarely end up losing out, whether Weby or the boys (with the one exception of Louie in that time travelling episode).

EDIT: In fact, I just remembered that Webby's "flaw" is what causes the entire main conflict of the first season that almost allows Magika to take over the world. Her desperation to be social allows Magika to manipulate her to get as far as she did to begin with.

Too bad S3 isn't on Disney+ yet since it's still airing new episodes. I've only seen like 2 eps of that season when I caught it live.
