TFA - Abrams and his team spend a lot of time working on Ren's mask.

TLJ - Rian Johnson makes a huge deal of smashing up the mask and Ren doesn't wear it anymore.

RoS - Abrams brings the mask back.

I swear having done a recent rewatch, the mask nonsense really sticks out as an example of two different people playing a game of tug-o-war. Fuck those guys.

Also, TRoS is much like the last season of Game of Thrones. It was so incredibly disappointing and bland that people barely remember it exists, which is not nearly proportional to the hype beforehand. Even if you hate TLJ, you have to admit it was a movie that stuck around.

TLJ had more emotional resonance, but RoS had some really, really good lightsaber fights. I'd have to tip it to TLJ for the superior cinematography, though. It had some really great use of color and contrast--Snoke's Throne room with the red and black, and Crait with the red and white, were both amazing.

The last jedi only suffers from very poor character and plot choices but as a film it's alot more enjoyable than rise of the Skywalker.

It may of appease the fanboys but my God did it treat the viewers like kids. I actually appreciate the last jedi for taking itself more serious trying to do something different. I'm no star wars fans and didn't watch any if these new films in theaters btw.

I actually felt like that was well handled on JJ's part. It was way too early to smash it in TLJ. It would be one thing if he made a new pristine mask but JJ makes a point of showing and even highlighting the fracture lines. Which was actually a cool little poetic touch.

Both are terrible but TLJ is the worst Star Wars movie by a big margin. TRoS was insanely stupid and lazily cobbled together, but it at least told a complete story from beginning to end. Bad guy shows up, good guys have to confront him and beat him. Done.

TLJ spins its wheels for 2 and a half hours and leaves us exactly where we started, while severing any other potential plotlines.

Getting rid of the mask was a really good call by Johnson imo because Driver is so good as Kylo Ren and a lot of that would have been gone had he had a mask the entire time. The only reason he had one from the start was to sell Kylo Ren toys
