Let's ignore the busted bounty system for now.

Whenever I read Arthur's journal he's so soft and gentle. I just stumbled across the civil war battle site and put it in my journal. He writes "all them young lives lost..."

Like damn man this is a guy who just does not like who he is. I can't sit here and force arthur to kill and rob his way across the states. It doesn't jive with me. I hate this shit lol

side note: it's really fucking annoying when i go out of my way to not kill animals needlessly or massacre innocents, but when arthur talks to tilly or karen or mary beth he says shit like "i keep killing animals needlessly" or "i keep hurting women, bad"

Like wtf arthur you are not doing that dude. Get a grip

That made me laugh. Try and have a "good" playthrough and still is like "Omg I'm such an evil person killing all these animals for no reason". Shut the fuck up Arthur no you're not

in my first playthrough it was like, okay that's odd but i've killed predators and not skinned them, and ive accidentally trampled critters. and sure, ive robbed and killed plenty. but i literally made it a point on this, my third playthru, not to be a bad dude. and he still lies for attention like this

It's not fun being a criminal in RDR2 because every single thing you do is a crime and then you get a bounty and shit.

Lol I will have to try that.

I just hate that half the time I go to hitch my horse it accidentally knocks over a guy's beer glass and then that's a $5 act of vandalism and then the guy wants to fight me but if I fight back it's a $10 act of hitting someone or something idk.

Then I get chased out of town and I can't continue the story and my horse doesn't get to rest.

That's fine, but i'm literally not killing animals and women for fun but the game is telling me i am. it doesnt even make sense for that to be something arthur does; i think they just assumed most players would indiscriminately murder and torture animals

You do kill animals for the hunting aspect I guess so they probably assume you'd do that. The rest can probably be explained via story missions.

It is weird because I do seem to recall Michael in GTAV telling his therapist the stuff you actually did do playing as him.

I've harvested everything I've killed.

Arthur: I keep killin' animals, needlessly. I'm just so angry
Mary Beth: Oh Arthur, why

Why indeed

Yes, this was a really cool thing in gta 5. If you banged escorts, he's upfront about it and gets admonished. if you havent banged escorts but have been to the strip club, the therapist says that michael is trying to get credit for something he's not adhering to. im not sure what he says if youve done neither. but yea, cool feature

I think it's glitched or not well thought out.

I've had a playthrough where Mary Beth's convo happened right after Horseshoe Overlook opened up and Arthur doesn't mention the animals at all, but I typically only kill for hunting and otherwise he always talks about killing animals needlessly.

GTA V had similar problems with Mike and the Therapist but I think it was mostly to do with the game "forgetting" everything you did if you loaded a save and then immediately did the thearpist stuff.

Rockstar literally said they wouldn't add vehicle customization, planes or parachutes because "Niko wouldn't be into that stuff as an immigrant."

Meanwhile, they don't really hold you back from anything in RDR2, so I don't get what you mean by "freedom". Just because the story doesn't represent everything in the gameplay doesn't mean you're not free to do it. GTA/RDR has never had 100% parity between the open world and the story.

I haven't forgot. This is modern Rockstar in a nutshell.

GTAV is slightly better to go on killing sprees since it doesn't have the annoying bounty system however. But the rest is the same.

V still has cops who can always catch up to you, police helicopters, and animals that can tell on you.

I love Rockstars' games, but god do they have certain things about them that just suck and they never bother to fix them. They're more worried about gamers not playing the game how Rockstar wants them to and people exploiting a single player game.

from what i remember Arthur saw his murderous rampages that the player forces him to do as some sort of mental illness/demon controlling him, right? so it sorta fits if you want to be a jackass, and arthurs character stays intact.

Not really. It's just they set an expectation that people have became entitled too. Then they decided to tighten it up a little to make it a more in depth experience and people can't accept it. It's still an amazing open world where you can do crazy shit on a level you can't in other games.

RDR2 is not Rockstars best game. If i remember correctly, aside the crappy controls, I think i had a better time on GTA4 than RDR2. And GTA4 isnt Rockstars best game by far.

Yeah it's more like "Rockstar has a story they want to tell."

About the only problem I have with Rockstar is how they lock everything behind a tutorial mission. That's not really necessary, you can have the tutorial be there but things shouldn't be locked behind it.

If you stray a little bit too far from your gang in a firefight you're hit with an autofail. Most story missions are like following a directors instructions. Go to this place and shoot bandits until your gang moves up ahead. There's no real incentive to be a criminal on your own terms.

It has an incredibly detailed world with some cool stuff in it yes.

I have played RDR2 probably 4 times and have never accidentally auto failed a mission like this.

You really have to go out of your way and leave the mission to fail it, which makes sense since it is a scripted mission.

People really grasp at straws to complain about Rockstar games these days.

I agree it's not perfect, but people act like forgivable stuff is damning. It's insane to me that someone would see a game so amazingly crafted and be like "oh, I can't walk away from the mission, this game sucks and is not worth playing". Just shows how fickle some gamers are. I understand the arguments about it not being for everyone, cause it's slow as fuck. But that's by design and you should just go find something more your speed.

It happened to me in the mission where you get into a shootout in the town. The gang went a bit ahead of me while I was shooting guys and I got hit with an autofail. It stuck out because that hasn't happened to me in a game for a long time.

I'm not saying it sucks to be clear. It's still a great game. But it is what it is. A game Rockstar wants you to play in specific ways that doesn't give you much agency as a player. It's not far off being an open world COD game for most of it.
