14 full days so far into May and in 12 of them they've had 1000 new infections each and every day. Think about that for a second, they had 3 in all of April and in two weeks that number quadrupled.

Coincidentally yesterday was two weeks after they opened up, and it was their worst day of infections yet. Oh and yesterday was also the most deadly day for Texas.

This is what happens when you half ass a lock down. You kill the economy and your people.

The US can, but they won't. That's the point. The only person looking out for you is you. Sitting at home indefinitely like a silent protest isn't going to change the way the government and world elites operate. They don't give a shit if you die in your home. Or on the street. Or wherever.

14 consecutive days where the net new cases is negative. I.e. for two straight weeks the number of people cured is greater than the number of people diagnosed.

I think this was a total bandwagon effect, one state opens and then suddenly they all want to open despite how vastly different every state is in relation to how the virus has spread.

It's very interesting how many states threw away their independence to follow what others were doing. This erases any advantage you get from allowing the states and local governments to form their own strategies, and if you're going to throw that away then we're basically double screwed by not having a detailed national strategy either.

Well maybe we need to quarantine for 5 years, or 10 years or however many it takes to get a vaccine. I see people here bitching about opening up but they aren't the ones who want to end up on ventilators with their legs being amputated or dying from this.

What the hell is up with this hostility? The bolded is exactly what governments did for airlines companies. They spent all their profits on stock buybacks without a preparation for a rainy day. Now a rainy day has appeared and they're begging to be saved. The government should have let free market do its thing and let them go down. Others would gladly take their spot.

Another well over 1000 infection day for Texas yesterday. They were just short of topping their high that was set the day before.

They were also two deaths away from tying their high on deaths.

To me opening up isn't an issue. We need to open up, it's not feasible to keep shit close. But this is exposing which states have shit leadership. Texas didn't do a good job during the shut down, and now as they open up they are peaking. NY is absolutely clowning Texas right now. They had the largest hot spot on earth, and everything across the board is going down as they open up. This is a state that has fucking New York City in it, how is that possible?

And before someone mentions New York having higher death totals and more infections, they're ignoring the picture. Texas has nothing like NYC, of course it's going to be higher. The difference is they have shit under control and are going down as Texas goes up.

This is the last bump because it's clear this is just going to continue to go up and it's just sad. They blew past their previous high in infections yesterday. The previous high was 1,446, they had 1,801 yesterday. Deaths went down, but sadly that will just be a blip because they are increasing at a scary rate.

That's now 10 straight days with 1000+ infections, 15 in total for the month of May. They are peaking right now. Dan Patrick is going to get what he wants. Not just that, he wants sports with fans in attendance right now. Dude is a fucking idiot.

I don't understand this line of questioning. Testing isn't causing more people to get infected. It's just confirming whether people are infected or not.

Because if you test 10 people, and 5 come up "positive" and you continue testing a very small number of people then it looks like you have no cases when people are likely infected at a much higher level.

If you then increase testing substantially, then you will definitely have a higher number of cases, but it depends also on the rate of positive cases also.

So now if they're testing 10K or 100K people, that 1,000 new cases is either very concerning or not as concerning as you open up businesses since the rate of positives is 10% or 1% of tests.

That's why TC saying look they are over 1K positives not when they weren't before really depends on if they were just under testing a lot before and are now testing many more people.

So an increase in testing led to higher Covid case total, which the timing just happened to coincide with reopening. So the two, as of now, are unrelated. Wont know the complete impact from reopening until 2-3 weeks from now.

No, it doesn't "look like you have no cases." Without any testing at all, you still have cases. You'd just be turning a blind eye to the fact that there are cases. People would still be going to emergency rooms/hospitals with difficulty breathing.

No, people didn't move past "flatten the curve." The problem is that there are too many people who are claiming it's a hoax and refusing to follow instructions in the US for "flatten the curve" to mean anything.

Way too many people don't care or insist it's some government hoax until it happens to them or someone they care about and they end up in the hospital.

What? If you're barely testing and reporting these low numbers it does. Then it let's people make decisions to do things because they say "look our numbers are so low!" when they should instead be increasing tests to get a more accurate read of infections.

I'm pretty sure Texas had this issue when it was barely testing anyone last month(hence they had fewer than 1K cases most of the time) , and it's now testing more and has more confirmed cases. Now they are likely testing exponentially more people so the gross number of positives is much higher than before.

NY was testing and expanding testing so it was getting a much better picture of infections and compared to everywhere else a much higher number of confirmed cases. But they also had a much higher number of tests done so it makes more sense to see positives vs tests instead of "positives are very high now".

The lockdown wasn't even supposed to last this fucking long. It's incredibly frustrating.

South Korea's daily COVID-19 cases:
  • Competent government
  • Vast majority of the population following social distancing and quarantine instructions
https://i.imgur.com/kdyrZNY.png

United States' daily COVID-19 cases:
  • Incompetent government
  • Way too many people not following social distancing and quarantine instructions
https://i.imgur.com/uP2uEyf.png

And even with the US's nationwide curve beginning to flatten, it's misleading because there are a lot of areas where the curve still hasn't flattened and case counts are still increasing.
