Anyway, I still think Tony wins, but I also think that all three players played phenomenal games for different reasons, and all three are the most deserving finalists of this season. Winners at War was touch and go at times, but regardless of who wins, this has been one of the best finales in YEARS. Probably the best finale since the three seasons these three won their first time around.

Anyway, the only bad thing about that finale is that not one person thought "I'll throw Michele a single vote. She deserves it." Watching her go the whole season, thinking she's a shitty winner and getting a fuckton of hate online for having the audacity to exist, and then she winds up being yet another 0-vote finalist...that really sucks. It was not fun to watch her cry into her sister's shoulder.

This is particularly repulsive to think about when there has been actual sex offenders on the show in recent history. I'm not sure I could stomach a season of that, knowing that they might be in constant danger with how the casting has let potential criminals slip through.

So my gut reaction is to put this season at 17/40. In the top half, but not comfortably so; below another season that I felt started out slow but got much better in the second half (San Juan del Sur) and above a season that I felt had the opposite issue - a weak finish to an otherwise great season (HvHvH). Coming in this was basically my nightmare cast list, especially on the male side of things. Very few people that I wanted to see again, and leaving out most of the people that I DID want to see again. And for the first 60% or so of the season, it was exactly what I thought it was going to be - everything wrong with modern Survivor. Soulless gameplay focusing on mindless strategy shoving that rhetoric down our throats without the drama and fun moments that I love Survivor for. But, as I said before, the turning point was Adam obsessing over the TC podium, and from then on there was so much of the classic Survivor that I know and love - goofy moments, good, meaningful blindsides, heartfelt moments, and an amazing F3 both as characters and players. Seriously, if the entire season had been of the quality of the last six episodes, it would be a top 5 contender, if not a solid contender for #2, even in spite of having stuff like EoE and the crappy post-34 format changes (I mean, my current #2, DvG, had the latter, so...). So yeah, crappy start, phenomenal finish, slightly above the middle feels about right.

That was an amazing finale. The fire making segment was so good it couldn't have been better if it was scripted.

Tony 3.0 > Tony 1.0 in terms of gameplay by the way. Not just because of the fierce competition, but he really had it more together this time around. In Cagayan, he was actually pretty erratic and got lucky a lot, not to mention that nobody quite like him had ever played before, so I think many people were more perplexed by him than anything else. This time, he really just played an all-around great game, regardless of who he was up against.

I really hate the message this season sent about how women can do anything a man can, and then a man beats two superior players at the end who outplayed him all season. It's such a slap in the face.

Was it meant to frustrate us, and show that we are powerless to change the world, to encourage us to change the world?

Honestly, Tony winning the all-winners season is probably the least-offensive thing about the current male dominance in Survivor.

And I really truly do hate the sexism card, but even I can't deny that 80% of the last 15 seasons being won by men is problematic, and 100% of the winners since Me Too being male is particularly uncomfortable.

Yeah I'm still kinda reeling. Definitely one of the best finales in recent memory. It's hard to compare to some of the earlier stuff since it was so different, but I wanna say it's a top 5 finale.

The Sandra move put Denise in a 3 person majority on a 4 person tribe. The only mistake she made there was playing her idol on Jeremy, but I can see why she did it. Denise had a decent shot at f3 without EoE, and she had a great shot at winning if she could've taken Tony out (or had Ben do it for her in fire).

So Jeff seemed committed to having a season of survivor in the fall, did he just say that for the sake of saying it or think it's legit? I mean, if they resume filming in July and the new season were to begin late September/early October, maybe that's enough time to edit those early episodes...?

I think that should be good. Back in the day they filmed the fall season in June/July and had the first few episodes ready by late September. If international travel is still restricted maybe they will film on U.S. territory.
