It was my understanding that if a virus mutates to become even more contagious, it usually mutates to a less lethal strain as well in order to thrive. I wonder if thats the case here?

My county announced a site for antibody testing. Anyone know what the test process is like? Couldnt find the info on google. Is it similar to the nose swab or is it blood work?
Since they fucked up with testing kits they overdid it with anti body tests. They allowed over 100 different products with like 80% or more giving false positives.

My state will allow counties of less than 75k move to the next phases of reopening if we dont have a new case in a 21 day period.

One of the city council members literally suggested to not get tested so the city can open up faster.

Wish I was joking.

Were at day like 14/15 right now with no new cases. Which is why the dumb wants to not test people because itll just restart the clock if someone comes back positive.

Just wow. this article says there is hope

https://www.livescience.com/silent-hypoxia-killing-covid-19-coronavirus-patients.html

and this is Levitan op-ed

https://www.nytimes.com/2020/04/20/opinion/sunday/coronavirus-testing-pneumonia.html which I hope you can open

"The concern with this presentation, called "silent hypoxia," is that patients are showing up to the hospital in worse health than they realize. But there might be a way to prevent that, according to a New York Times Op-Ed by emergency department physician Richard Levitan. If sick patients were given oxygen-monitoring devices called pulse oximeters to monitor their symptoms at home, they might be able to seek medical treatment sooner, and ultimately avoid the most invasive treatments."

? Where do I get my pulse oximeter? I am guessing that taking my pulse and counting my breaths will work?

No, pulse (heart rate) and counting your breaths (respiratory rate) are not the same as oxygen saturation, which is the percent of oxygen in your blood. Pulse oximiters are little devices that you put on your finger that checks both your pulse and oxygen saturation. You can't check your oxygen saturation without one. Pretty sure you can by a pulse oximeter at various stores or order one online.

I'm apparently going back to work on Monday. I'm unsure what I think of it. I mean, on one hand, I only work in an office with three other people. On the other hand, we're attached to a warehouse with probably dozens of people who don't really give a shit about much except getting their paycheck, and those of us in my office regularly have to go out to the warehouse to get rid of our trash and get supplies. Plus, our office has those wall mounted AC (HVAC?) units all over, and if they're pulling in air from the warehouse, that's kinda scary to me.

I have maybe 5-10 masks, but I'm not really sure how they work as far as maintenance; not sure if they can be reused, not sure how to properly clean them without degrading their effectiveness. And masks aren't exactly easy to come by, these days, so... Are 5-10 going to be enough to protect me every (week)day for the next several months/ couple of years?

Up til now, I felt like my state was generally doing okay about shutdowns and stuff, but we're currently reopening stuff, and I just saw something today that the plan is to have stuff like bars, dine in restaurants, and hair salons open within the next couple weeks, too. Granted, I still don't plan on going out to any of those things any time in the near future, myself, but it all makes me very nervous, and I don't trust that people aren't just going to start completely throwing caution to the wind. Yet, there's virtually nothing I can do about any of that.

Just announced that my state is loosening up restrictions a tiny bit this weekend. Basically restaurants can open dining rooms to 50% capacity if they want (they don't have to it's their choice). Also salons and barbers can open again. All businesses still have the right to remain closed if they want to, people can't complain saying they have to be open.

Makes sense. We as a state are in a good place overall in terms of the virus, while at the same time keeping places that gather large groups like gyms and the casinos closed for now.

We got really lucky that we didn't get hit harder.

Remember how antibodies persist longer in older persons and often cannot even be detected in young people who recovered from covid 19? There have been a few posts over the topics.

That there are no antibodies is consistent with their being young and having had covid; particularly as a large number of the kids do have the disease or the antibodies.

Almost every health expert says it's a horrible idea.

Basically, about a week or so ago, everybody just said fuck it.

The entire thing has been so predictable since it started. We're probably gonna end up in an even longer lockdown eventually because cases are rising pretty much everywhere outside the sane areas like NY and WA. And even they will succumb to the pressure, and since we're all so interconnected, it will affect them as well.

It's the United States of America. Doesn't matter where they're reopening unless travel from in and out of that area is completely stopped.

Since Georgia reopened, they've had like 500k a day coming in every day and we don't know how many are leaving or where they're going.

It's gonna be a mess no matter what.
